Hey guys, Im Kyle and this is my first post on here, new to the forums but i just bough a 2009 white toyota camry se about a month ago and had tint, radio, new tires, and a sunroof put in...well iv had a passport 9500ix for about 6 months now and im trying to hardwire this to my fuse box...the only problem im having is connecting this to the fuse panel. I have the wires set and ready to go. Some say i should mount my detector high, some say low...can someone tell me which is better and why. Lastly i was considering the K&N CAI but idk how much gain i will get out of it...does anyone have comparison 0-60 times or any comments about it, ill gladly listen
If you search the forums you will find answers to all your questions because they have all been covered, including that sun roof you added. You might better contact the manufacturer of the radar detector for opinions on that one, otherwise you can wire it through the auxiliary/cig circuit because it draws very little amperage and cuts off with the ignition. As for the CAI, well, read. You expect this sort of stuff to affect your wallet more than your acceleration, but others will argue the point until the moon rises, so good luck with that one.

Actually, he wasnt asking about tints or sunroof. He was just stating that he had them put in.
I personally have mine mounted high. The reason for mounting it high is because if you're stuck behind a minivan or SUV, it blocks the radar detector. So having it high, the radar detector is able to get signals through the window when you're behind them. Not to mention, when you're on a hill, it will detector quicker when its up high as opposed to it being low.
However, having it high isnt good when you're hit with a laser gun. Laser guns are direct hit and officers aim at your license plate or headlights. So having it low is beneficial for this purpose. In the link I provided, they have a vast amount of information about your radar detector as well as local law enforcements and what they use.
CAI is mainly for show and sound. There is a small gain but something you wont notice at all. Same goes for exhausts. This has been discussed on the forum and a search will give you answers.
If you want real big gains, you'll need to go custom and put in a turbo kit which can costs thousands. This has also been discussed on the forums or private message (PM) Princess Peach if you are serious about going this route.

Thank you...much appreciated im am going to go check the radar forum out right now!
did the OP ever hardwire the detector? Tried this weekend on my 2011 se and could not find a ground. Plus the fuses in this car are so small I may not have the positive in all the way.
Yes, the mini fuses are a pain. Invest in a cheap needle nose pliers and leave them in the trunk so they don't get lost. As for ground, it's all around you. The whole body is a ground.

Sounds like the best is still keep an eye out for cops and a bunch of other shit on the road + off the road + rare but OVER the road too.
(Once, my brother going to the beach and got caught by cops on the over pass gunning people passing below. They radio for cops about half a mile away to pull you over and give you ticket. that was horrible.)

I have heard officers doing tag team. Once would be on an overpass getting peoples speed. As you get closer and they get a better look of your car and color, they radio it in to another officer down the next entrance ramp and once they see you, out they come to get you.
Although even with my radar detector, I dont speed. Its now more of warning for me and to check my speed incase I forget. However, I dont always rely on it as it may not go off and a cop can still be on the side of the road but may not be getting your speed but still get you for something else. So I'm still aware of my surroundings. It helps when my Valentine1 gives me arrow directions of where its coming from where as other radar detectors dont. So you dont know where the cop is whether its on your side of the highway or the opposite direction.
But if I am going slightly above the speed limit and following another car, I use them as my lead car. They are known as "rabbits". If they're in front of me and we're driving, the first car the cop would get is their car. Once they zap them, my radar would go off allowing me to slow down. If I was the first car and I got zapped, the speed of my car and my reaction would probably not be enough. It only takes a cop a couple hundred feet to get your speed with a normal radar gun. Laser guns are instanteous.
