Flex Pipe

So as several of you know I have the TRD catback exhaust, '10 SE V6. I went in for a oil change yesterday and complained of a slight rattle in the exhaust during acceleration. Come to find out that in the front pipe, right inside where the flexpipe is, apparently there are 2 heatshields inside. and apparently when toyota made these they only spot welded instead of the whole thing. So thusly, one of those shields has apparently broken loose and is rattling around in there. Thank Jebus it's under warranty. Cuz it's a 1200$ repair.
These front pipes never go bad and never have a problem so when I told him the exhaust was done offbooks, he said he is gonna pretend he didn't hear that because otherwise Toyota could have a little fit about covering it under warranty, claiming that the pipe may have been struck by a hammer to break the exhaust loose or something silly like that. Just thought I'd let yall know about my random odd repair in case you come across the same issue and can't figure it out. And to ask a question, wtf is the use of a heatshield inside an exhaust pipe?

Had this happen to me 2 days ago on my 2009. I was driving and everything was fine. My wife pointed out that something sounded funny. I started to hear it too. I also have TRD exhaust and installed it myself so I know I didn't smack it. Not to mention, its been 2 years. Sounded like something was loose/rattling from under the car. It also gave the car a raspy sound like a fart can and more vibration inside the cabin.

Took it to my shop and they said something is loose inside the flex pipe. Told me to take it to dealership since it should be under warranty. I told him I'm over the 36,000 mile and he said that for parts like this, its about 8 years. So I'm dropping off my car tonight and have them check it tomorrow. Hopefully my mechanic is right that its a 8 year warranty. I'll update when I find out.

Dealer replaced the flex pipe. So yes, it was still under warranty. But my problem still existed. There was vibration coming from underneath the car and a raspy fart can sound. I also noticed that there was a sputtering sound when I turned off the car

Took it back to my shop and told them where I thought it was coming from, which was near the middle of the car. Got a call back an hour later and they told me that it was the gasket in the TRD exhaust pipe. It was rusted and deteroriated. Went to get the car after work and it was back to normal. I dont remember what the gasket looked like when I installed my exhaust but I was told it was cheap and didn't last long.
