5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Thinking of purchasing this 04' Camry SE V6 (pics below). At the moment I drive a '99 Camry LE V6, Black, with absolutely no problems. About to hit 200k miles. Love the car's speed, reliability, and gas mileage (roughly 24). Not bad for a 12 year old car.
Kind of puts me in a bad spot, since my '99 is fine and really doesn't need anything. But I have to figure it will eventually run into a major problem (original tranny, etc.)
Anyway, my real question is: You guys think this is a good deal for this '04 Camry SE? $9,500. 80k miles.
(Dealer pictures):
Might be a good start to a car project ^^ , opinions?
whats the kelly bluebook or edmunds value on the car in your area? i looked it up in my area and its saying in good condition the car should be around $9,430. so for what your looking at, its not a bad deal.

Besides price and mileage, you need to find out about previous history...any major repairs, accidents, etc. You'll need to ask them for Carfax and ask more questions and get more information from the dealer themselves.
You also need to ask about what kind of warranty, if any is included with the car even though its used. I assume its a certified pre-owned since its coming from a dealership?

Sorry, forgot to mention that the car has a clean carfax and is in absolutely fine mechanical condition, clean inside and out. Really nothing wrong with the car. And 80k miles in ~6 years is a little less then average.
Tires/Brakes in about 10-15k miles probably, but those are the only two major things. I don't mind that the tires will go in about 6 months or so because that will give me an excuse to package together a deal with some nice rims, also shredded off a bit of the price.
It's not certified pre-owned and it's out of factory powertrain warranty because of its year and mileage (2004 and 80k miles). Comes with standard dealer warranty, above 80k miles in a used car is 30-day everything warranty. Extended warranties available of course, but I'm not worried really. Know a good mechanic, and I know it's a Toyota.
KBB Excellent Suggested Retail Value is $12,815 in my area with the car's options (Moonroof, Rear Spoiler, Alloy Wheels, etc).
You figure about ~$2,000 comes off or maybe a little less for "Good" Suggested Retail Value.
I might be able to get the car down to $9,000. Either way, I'm under KBB value and do believe this is a good deal (as long as this Camry holds out like my other ones, like a Toyota SHOULD )

Average mileage per year is 12,000-15,000.
In the end, its your final decision whether or not its a good by based on your situation, circumstances and decision. We dont see the car or talk to the dealer. You're the one that puts the money down and signing on the dotted line. Some will say yes, buy it. Some will say no, dont. You're back to square one.
Thats like asking us if you should buy the house. Its your money. You're the one living in it. You can show us the most beat down car or the most expensive and we all say yes. Would you still buy it?
We don't know what your financial situation is or is likely to be in the foreseeable future, so if it is what you can budget, then buy it and hope for the best. Personally I would not be buying a car with 80k miles because from my perspective, colored by age and experience, it has seen better days, but again, your situation will be different. It's good that you are looking at something you can afford as opposed to trying to buy a car you clearly can't afford. If you have shopped around and this is the best deal, then buy it.

"People who think they know it all are particularly irritating to those of us who do."
You are to be commended for your wisdom. Not everyone has the self restraint that you exhibit.
Sarcasm was unnecessary,
At 80k miles, you're right, a car has more than likely seen its better days already. However, it's a Toyota. And we all love Toyota. Especially the Camry, and that's why we're here. I have faith.
The fact that I have a '99 v6 LE with 200k miles on it that never needed more than regular maintenance probably proves my opinion of Toyota's that much more.
ask the dealewr to show you the used car inspection checksheet the tech filled out. it will tell you EVERYTHING it needs not just what was chosen by the used car manager to maxamize profit on the car.
how dont you understand that? its a toyota dealer right? or not?
