5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I was parked on the street last week and someone clipped the driver's side mirror. The glass is shattered (although still in place) and the housing is loose, though still intact. Vehicle is a 2005 SE with power mirrors.
Is this a DIY repair? I assume the entire mirror/housing assembly must be replaced. Does the inside door panel have to be removed?
The repair is simple. Just pull on the inside little cover, and it'll pop right off. There are 2 or 3 little bolts in there, and an electrical connector (I'm assuming the SE had power mirrors in '05). Simply unbolt the old one and bolt the new one on. Hook up the little electrical connector and you're good to go.
Yes I replaced my pass. side mirror a few months ago!
However, I was stupid and did too much work haha. You don't even have to remove the door panel!
Just remove that black piece on the inside that is Right of the bottom right hand corner of the window (for drivers) and left of the bottom left hand corner of the window (for pass. side).
That'll reveal the bolts and clip harness! just swap the mirror out using the existing bolts and you're set!
OH btw, if you don't mind me asking.. where did you get the replacement mirror from?

My wife clipped her driver's side mirror on her 2003 Camry. The partswebsite.com lists three related parts; mirror assy, mirror glass, inner cover.
I am trying to figure out if I need to buy the whole mirror assy or just the mirror glass.
The only parts damaged are the mirror glass and the motor wires were sheared at about the point where the cowling meets the door frame.
Does the mirror glass part come with the motor and it's wires? Can I buy the motor without buying the entire mirror assy? Does anyone have a pic or diagram of the mirror glass and how to attach it? Thank you.

When I was looking I did not see anything other than the entire assembly. Cheapest approach may be junk yard if you can find the right color. Going to the dealer, it was just about a wash between a new, painted mirror and a used, primed mirror which had to be painted in the body shop.

But on my car, the plastic mirror housing, the part painted the body color, is not damaged. I just need the mirror housing's guts.
