5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I have a 2008 camry le and i just lowered it with ksport coilovers ( not slammed ). Now the only problem is there is a knocking noise coming from the rear of the car. When i first put the ksports on i heard the noise and i thought it was the strut so i sent it back to them and had them replace it. but that wasn't it. every time i hit a bump theres a loud knock as if my car was bottoming out. I dunno what it can be i tried to loosen the spring, different heights. Now when i put the stock strut on you do not hear the noise anymore. Does anyone know or have idea of wats gonna on???
Obviously the new parts don't provide as much support as the original parts and as you say, it is bottoming out. Get rid of your friends so the car is lighter. If you are the only one in the car, take a hint and go on a diet. If you load the car up with people and it only gets worse then take that hint and figure out that this lowering crap isn't all you expected, put the original stuff back on, and sell the new parts to someone else with less sense.

"People who think they know it all are particularly irritating to those of us who do."
Someone with coil overs will chime in. But beside that what is your softness set on if its on super soft maybe its bottoming out of not check if everything is tightened down properly.
I did try that. The ride itself isn't bad at all. The weird thing is on my way home on the highway ( NY BQE n FDR potholes like crazy) I heard it like 5 times but once I hit the street I heard it more.
it could be a lot of things, from loose bolts to a not preloaded spring. Check all your bolts and make sure the spring has some preload in it so that if the car is on the air and the rings that tighten the spring are tight enough to the point that if you grab the spring and shake it hard back and fourth, you won't get any noise. Make sure that the locking rings are all tight especially the lower one because that one moves and the whole strut moves on the threads over bumps. Last, check your sway bar link, that bolt is tricky to tighten because you have to hold it with an allen wrench in order to tighten it right without ruining it. If you didn't do that right than it might be it. Just grab the link and shake it real hard to see if it makes noise.
On the other hand, I've had my coils on for over a year and i still hear a noise from my left rear and haven't been able to figure out where it's coming from.
The bolts are tight everywhere it "seems" and there is preload the springs doesn't move. My father has the car at his shop so I'm tellin him wat it can be as you guys tell me. I do think it's the rear sway bar or something back there hitting another bar. The strut itself is good I even sent it back and the guy couldn't get it to make noise so I know it's not busted. The thing witthe rear sway is I can't move it wit my hand I wish I could drive over a camera so I could see wat happens at the bottom of the car
When I get home today Ima Jack the car up. Hopefully I see some kind of proof that one of the links sway bar gas tank etc something is rubbing or in this case banging with eachother
i have d2s on my car and i hear the knocking all the time from the rear...people here on the coilover thread said it was norm for d2s and ksport so i really dont care...the ride feels good to me and i love em...i already got used to the ride and noise...if u wanna keep em juss turn up the music like i do or go back stock

I understand the "regular" coilover noise but do you hear a loud knock when u drive over a bump fast?? Is that normal
yea when im on the freeway...here in la i always hear knocks and its just in the back..i really dont know why it does it but i trippled checked everythin...tightened everythin...took them off and did it all over again and it still does it...bumbs, dips, cracks...i had mine for like 2 months now..i drive everywhere all the time and it seems fine..if your really worried bout it get it done at a shop..i work for a dealer and my mechanic friends helped me out and they say its fine

Well if the coilovers are removed and reinstalled with double checking all components... It should be fixed...
Ross is correct, it can be many things. Just be lucky its not torn front axles like me lol
i think im getting that on mine now. front passenger side, makes a clicking noise when i back up slowly or if i turn left to park in a parking spot a little too fast, i gotta check it out but no time at all and it's too damn hot.
