5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Does your wife/gf/significant other drive your Camry?
Aight so here's the deal. My wife and I just bought our new 2011 SE last week. I completely obsess over the car—and love it. Very, VERY miticulate as far as parking, where and how I drive, roads etc ... I want to keep this in pristine condition.
Now, enter my wife.
The camry would be considered our primary car. However we do have another car, a 96 Mercury Mystique. ehhh oooo (rim shot plz).
Last week my wife drove the Mystique to and from work like she normally did. I drove the Camry because it was the first week of having it and loved it. Now we begin week 2 and I'm back to my normal routine of taking the light-rail everyday downtown because it's more economical.
Here-in-lies my dilemma. My wife took the Camry today and called me from the BT phone that she found out how to sync since I did mine—and "adores driving the Camry". Well crap.
Let's just say she doesn't apprecaite the car, nor will take care of the car like I will. And yet I can see her wanting to drive it 24/7. Up-hill battle for me.
bahh.
Maybe she'll change her mind when I tint the windows and drop TRD springs into it.
You're right. Women HATE tinted windows and lowered cars. And I can't believe that she'd want to drive a brand new camry over a '96 Mecury Mystique. What nerve! Good luck.
Don't let her have the keys....problem solved. Install a security system that requires someone that doesn't have estrogen to be steering. My gf has driven the car 2x. Once so she could check it out, and 2nd time cuz I was intoxicated. haha.
Give her the keys to the Mercury and say "Here woman, wreck this first!"
talk her into trading that mercury in, and get herself a solara!!

My wife complained I never let her drive the car...cuz the Camry is my baby. So I finally decided to let her drive it and she doesnt want to. However, she did get behind the wheel once to drive it up and down the block so I can hear the exhaust from the outside rather than from inside the car. LOL.
All driving is done by me when we're in the Camry. She just sits there and sleeps. HAHA
Ahhaha no one wants to drive my car.. Because like you, I'm very particular with it. My gf has driven my car probably two or three times, my mom once. They just know I'd die a little inside if something happened, but I told them sh*t happens so don't worry, cause I know they're extra careful w/ my car to begin with. It IS 5 years old now so I'm not as anal as I was before . I drive my gf's '09 Camry all the time though, she prefers I drive if we're going somewhere unfamiliar and/or further out.
I think your wife needs her own Camry. Perhaps a plain 2011 LE w/ BT and that's it. Ha ha!

I did let my gf drive it a few times and she beat the hell out of it, tailgating people like there is no tomorrow, doing illegal u-turns that almost got me clipped, I think she likes to give me a heart attack. But what's funny is, everytime she drives it like that, the car is fine, but when I drive it, it scraped, dinged, etc. In fact, all scrapes are done by me, and I always baby this thing.
my wife would drive my car whenever i would leave it at home and take the accord, now to fix that problem install some dark tints and 20 inch rims... my wife hasnt touched the car since.. her words, "I CANT DRIVE THAT THING." problem solved. i can leave my car home for weeks at a time and no worries about where its at anymore lol. so save up and do something to the car that she wont like.
...With that said, unbalance the rear wheels for the next week so when she drives it wont feel good at all, and she'll stop wanting to drive it Works like a charm, every time
