rack and pinion

my wife went into a ditch and tore off the front and back bumper and bent a tie rod on her 2010se camry.after we got it back from body shop i noticed that if you turn the wheel all the way to the left it will stay there and track in a circle.i went to the dealer to see if it did the same thing on a non wrecked one and it does it too.i always thought the wheel should rotate back some after you release the wheel.

Only hard left, not hard right? I can't say that I've tried this but I will this morning. I tend to agree with you. If the car is aligned properly then it should true itself. I'm guessing your body shop isn't as good as my body shop because my guys would never let the car back without a 4 wheel alignment.

they did do a 4 wheel alighment before i got it back and then i told them about the steering issue and so in went a new rack and pinion and 2 new tierods.and another 4 wheel alighment.the car drives straight and smooth and thats when i went to drive a new one on the lot and found out the rack and pinion probably was alright after they fixed it the first time with just a tie rod replacement and alighment.oh well insurance is paying anyway.i assume it does the same thing hard right too .i just happened to to go hard left to get into a parking place and discovered the situation.you hardly ever have to turn the wheel all the way to stop to either side in everyday driving.let me know what you find out please.thanks
