Gen5 how much would you pay for '05 camry SE 97k miles from dealer ?

hello,

just trying to get a real world price check from TN members. how much would you pay for:
'05 camry SE (2.4L) automatic 97k miles from dealer ?

car has steel wheels, fogs, sun roof, 4 disc brakes and ABS.

2 owners, first one lease (up to 32k miles), second one (personal) seems to have put 60k miles in last 3 years. no accidents reported. 4T VIN.

thanks.

According to Edmunds, for a "clean" condition car. Those values sound about right.. But only you can see the actual car and it depends on how much you want the car. I'd love to pick up another gen 5.5 but it's gonna be V6, preferably an SE w/ the 3MZ

Gen6

I personally would not buy with that high a mileage...or buy from a dealer.

Toyota dealer?? Factory certified??

Steel Wheels?? You mean with hubcaps?

You sure it's an SE? they come with alloy rims not steelies...

If it's from Toyota it'll be certified..it has to be.

The SE I4 came with 16" steel wheels unless optioned with alloys, though very few were not upgraded to alloys.

And coming from a Toyota dealer doesn't necessarily mean they're "certified" which IMO is only as good as the dealer checking the car.

In your part of the world, look for signs of salt and rust under the car and on the aluminum parts of the power train, and of course, any signs of prior life in the trunk. If the car is really clean it might be worth $7000 from a dealer with a warranty of some sort, but at that mileage, Toyota or not, a beater is a beater, and shouldn't be assumed to run another 100k miles without knowing the full history.

thanks for opinions guys. i will consider looking at this car.

in meantime i found a decent 2000 Solara SLE V6 with same mileage as that 05 camry SE i4, would be a perfect family match for my other 2000 Solara SE i4
considering that one too now (much cheaper of course). trying to beat down the dealer price based on missing maintenance items (timing belt, water pump, all seals down to oil pump, no tune up visible), also both valve cover gaskets show an oil leak (not a big deal really)...

decisions, decisions ...

I would feel perfectly ok buying a (pre-2007) camry with that high mileage. As long as it looks like someone changed the oil on time. $10,000 is what blue book says, but i think you could do better buying one from a private party sale.

I don't think **I** would buy from a dealer with that high mileage unless I could take it to my trusted mechanic for an inspection first. Too many things could go wrong from simple neglect at that point.

If it passed my mechanics diags and NOTHING was wrong, there was no rust, no rips in the interior and is what anyone would consider in great shape, about $9000, if it came with a warranty, maybe a little more.

BTW - I own this exact car and only have 50,000 on it I wouldn't sell it for $10k, I like it too much

I think i will pass on 2005 model. cannot afford any serious down payment and taking most part of it with financing sucks.

also i'd rather buy a car from a dealer as you can at least a credit card over there and then pay it off with cash later on when it comes in. besides if things go wrong, you can always try disputing the credit card charge (there would nothing to dispute if you paid cash/check).

can't do that with a private seller, cash/check only doesn't satisfy me unless i know the seller and someone recommends him to me (it was like that with my current solara se, post-salvage title but car looked like new when i bought it @ 35k miles 6 years ago).

Besides I found same year (2005) as in this thread much cheaper at different dealer, i think my local toyota is seriously over-priced.

thanks for your opinions guys. i think i will be getting a 2000 solara sle, found a few of them in my area, checked out one, not bad at all, still 2 more to go.
