5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
ok, this is kind of my welcome thread also. i am mary's fiance, i am a car tuner i work on a very wide assortment of vehicles and i do the majority of work on her car. well i noticed there are VERY little differences between the 2az-fe in the scion tc and the 2az-fe in the camry. mainly the downpipe is routed differently. well i found a greddy bolt-on turbo kit that is carb legal and i was wondering if this would be alright to bolt on and would it compatible with the stock sensors (i know the maf is different from the 07 scion tc) and if custom exhaust and downpipe would be just about all i need other than this kit. i could see maybe a battery relocation kit depending on room but i have heard this is the site for those who have successfully turbo'ed their camrys. thank you very much.
turbo i4 was mentioned before. look up the gen6 turbo i4 threads. it's not that simple. i can spoon feed but u should really take the time to search and read up more about this.
i know it has been discussed before. i was merely just asking if this kit could be compatible with just downpipe alteration (custom one in this case) since greddy is a reputable company unlike ebay. the pre-programmed emange is the most tempting part of it. i know the other builds on this site were accomplished by people picking out parts and making custom builds, this just seems shorter and i cannot find much reason why this would work on a scion tc and not a camry considering they have quite identical motors. i would have to look at how the piping is routed to make sure that it would not have to be modified.
and ur last part answers why it wouldn't fit. and if u done more research u would see its that the piping is different so would need to be modified, the FMIC would prob need to be different too, the block needs to be shaved, and u need to do a new exhaust setup. don't forget the piggyback that u need to program. it's been said many times that if u need info on turbo just pm peachy instead of making a new thread every 3 weeks about the same old thing.
Some folks just get tired of reading the same questions over and over, and seeing new people who have just discovered that Toyota builds cars instead of just fork lifts who wish to be spoon fed, just like their high school classes.

also if im buying something in the multiple K i go out and research and search it for a bit before buying it. i don't simply say i want to go turbo, find what engine i have, find a kit for another car and then go on forums asking if it will fit. if it was such a easy modification even though the camry is not as popular the company would of made a simple change in 1 tube or another and sold the kit to get those extra few cars.
it's not like i didn't help him. i told him what to look for and then gave him a simple run down of what is different so he can research more.
look i don't mind harshness. visit club3g where i have been for a few years. THAT is harshness. you did help me very much thank you. i should have looked better to find out to pm peachy instead. it is my fault. also, this has no intercooler with it and comes with a pre-programmed fuel and ignition maps for the 2az-fe motor. so that leaves out tuning and FMIC piping. just piping from the turbo outlet to air intake which form what i have seen should not be too much different. obviously i would go and have a custom downpipe made for the exhaust as well as 2.5" exhaust custom made. to fine tune the maps on the emanage i have a buddy that specializes in emanage tuning for evo's so he would be able to quite easily handle tuning a couple maps on here. i also started this thread in case no one knew about this kit so people could look at it and criticize whether this would be a good idea or not. greddy is a reputable company, and the price is not really marked up too much. thanks for all the help
Don't be so harsh geez...he's asking a simple question..... Maybe provide him with a link instead of being an ass about it.
I do have a question for the OP though....who is Mary? don't think i've seen the name mentioned here before.
Mary is my fiance. I am a mechanic and i do the work on her car. She is still learning about cars and will probably ask many questions on here in the future to help her learn.
my old car was 08 camry 5spd and i made a turbo kit for this car i am the first person in the world i guess lol! and i hit 300++ HP at the wheels on stock block!
greddy kit will fit u will need to mod the Intercooler piping , Downpipe ( like S pipe ) , shave the block ( to make a fit the TC Manifold ) , but here is the problem.. pre-map from E-Manage blue or ultimate w/e called will not work with our car.... thats why i used AEM FIC good stuff for the money.. but wiring.... its a pain... took me 2 weeks to find the right color of the wires of the Stock ECU.. E-manage or FIC will be same u just need something to control ur Injector and other things.....
how about use the emanage that comes with it? and have someone tune it for the car? i can shave the block that shouldn't be too bad. this kit does NOT have intercooler piping or intercooler though. just piping form turbo to throttle body. i would do custom but custom piping is not cheap and i have yet to test spectre tubing parts to see if they are safe for holding large PSI levels. looking only for 8 psi on stock internals. looking for 260 hp. thanks alot. i think i may pm you later on about your kit if you don't mind.

chuck nasty
u can use any management but if u want but like i mention the wiring is not joke.... and its totally another world of wiring compare to Scion TC or Solara.. thats why took me so long.. u can just buy a Universal IC Pipe and Cut by piece by piece ( by angle ) well i confirm 2AZ-FE can hold 300hp easy with stock internals ( if u dont mess around with boost.. )
i play to much psi.. ( max psi i hit was 16psi ) on stock block
anyways good luck bro... Turboing camry is such of Fun!!!
ps : u can check for some dyno charts on my cardomain page
i already have i am shooting for about 8 psi to start with a damn good tune. i had issues at the track with mary's camry that need to be attended too. right now exhaust manifold gasket leaking causing afr to be read wrong, the new tires i had her get DESTROYED the 60' (wider tires), and i went to a shitty track on a day with 97 degree weather. fixing leak asap (when i get some time). she wants to keep that size tire no matter what fro better traction and just get more power. i will goto MIR next time. although i have to admit the times were ridiculously consistent lol. if i can get this boat off the line a bit faster i can work form there.
