2005 Gen 5 Gas Tank Question

what is the reserve gas tank amount after the yellow light comes on on empty?

It varies a lot but about 2 gallons. The light is not always consistent.

On my gen 5.5 I fill up w/ exactly 14.5 gallons (meaning 4 gallons remaining) immediately after the low gas light comes on. My gf's gen 6 was more like 14 gallons I think. When I'm below the E I'm still filling up with 16 gallons or less. I obviously don't want to push it because I can't imagine running out of gas is good for a car

Since each car is a little different, wait until the light just comes on and then fill it up. The tank holds 18.5 US gallons. Alternately, carry a gas can with a measured 2 gallons in it. Drive only on side streets after the light comes on, and when the engine to die, pull over and put the contents of the can in, and then go fill it up. No, you really don't want the engine fuel pump to run dry. It uses gas to cool it, but if you have ever run out of gas, it usually is not an all or nothing thing, and you will fel it going.

the whole tank is 18.5 gallons. the light will come on after 15 gallons of use, leaving 3.5 gallons in the "reserve" tank.
