2010 LE going back for service today. I feel somethings not up...
When I bought my Wifes 2010 LE we were giving a 2 yr maintance free package. Yesterday I went for the 5K maintance and they said they could not do it b/c the car was to low. So they rescheduled me for today. While talking to the guy at Toyota he told me that all there going to do is top off fluids and rotate tires. I said doesn't the oil have to be changed? He said not till 10k. I said really b/c my other newer Toyota are every 5500 miles and besides that this is the first one. I came home and checked my maintance book and it shows the oil getting changed at 5k. So is the dealer trying to get over b/c I'm not paying for any maintance? Changing the oil is critical and I would not hesitate to do this myself like in my other vehicles, but since the service is free for 2 yrs why not.
So fellow Camry owners let me know about this. I got in about 4 hours for my re-scheduled appt.
Thanks
Judd

But I understand the concern. I changed my own oil the first time at 2k miles. Since yours has synthetic, change it yourself and use a good synthetic, just for the confidence that the new stuff is out of the engine. If you just want, change the filter and top off the oil level.

Thanks for the replies. I will probably just get a oem filter and some castrol syntec like I always do since that's what the Dealer always put in my Toyotas.
Thanks
Judd

My Toyota and Lexus dealer uses this.
Said to be Mobil oil specially formulated for Toyota.

this is exactly what i will be doing. at 5k, i will take my new camry in for its check up and tire rotation. i have purchased a couple of the TRD oil filters. i will have them change the filter, and top off from there. now, i too have the 2 year "free" oil changes. so i will be paying for the labor only on the changing of the filter, i was told "about" $10.........i can live with this. i'd rather have a fresh filter every 5k miles. when it hits 10k miles, i will supply them with the next TRD oil filter.
only from what i have read here, and another toyota site, the TRD filter is synthetic material. whether or not its superior to the "original" filter (for me) is a moot point, as i like the idea it is synthetic, and (in my opinion) less likely to have something go wrong over an ordinary paper filter, especially if one were to go the full 10k miles on an original paper filter.
also, for me, i'd like the dealer to do the oil/filter changes, as it accomplishes some things.......first, the waste oil disposal, and the "relationship" that i build with any dealer when i buy a vehicle. there have been times, when out of warranty, a dealer has managed somehow to get a repair covered for me.........now, whether or not a toyota dealer will be treating the same as an "american" car dealer, is yet to be seen........
then too, a CarFax will show potential buyers that the car was indeed maintained, when they are shopping online. when i was shopping online, every dealer had the "carfax" reports, and all i'd ever see was dealer service, not the average repair garage.
"I came home and checked my maintance book and it shows the oil getting changed at 5k."
Call Toyota corproate customer service (They call it the Customer Experience Center.) at 1-800-331-4331 and discuss this with them. Point out to them what the manual says. They will tell you what is correct.

if i am wrong, so be it...........
I'm going to do the same thing only with regular Toyota oil filters because I have 5 and they fit both my vehicles but do like the TRD filter more.
I'm going to drop the oil every 5K and let Toyota service change the oil and at 10K free.I'll drop the oil only again at 15K and Toyota will do the final free oil and filter change at 20K.
I bought a case of Toyota 0w20 on Ebay for $77 shipped on Ebay.
Probably going to go with Amsoil 0w30 after the freebies and do around a 8K oil and filter interval.
i too just bought my car this year and havnt hit 5000 miles yet.
but it should come with the oil change. talk to them about it
and check other dealers.
its offered by toyota not the dealer so u can go to any dealer you like

If the oil is synthetic,it's 10K miles or a year.
Lexus gives you your first oil change free.It was at 5K when dino oil was used and now 10K with the synthetic fill.
About 5-6 months ago Toyota mailed out new maintenance record books with the new oil change interval and a letter explaining the reason why the change (new research on synthetic oil). You should have gotten one in the mail, if you didn't, I'm sure the dealer can provide you with one.

I personally wouldnt run the full 10,000 miles (even with synthetic) on the first oil change. I wouldnt go any longer than 5,000 miles because as your engine is breaking it, its putting a considerable amount of microscoping metal shavings in the oil and you want to change the oil early in order to flush those shavings out of your engine.
This is exactly why I do the maintenance myself whenever possible. A lot of the service techs dont know what they are doing.

Why? 0w-30 isnt the recommended oil for your engine.
0w30 is fine.I'm not worried about any warranty issue.
I've used Amsoil for years. It's Amsoil's best oil and at worst cost me a couple of tenths of a mile per gallon.
