engine wants to die???

Ok I've been searching here since this morning on my BB phone and its hard to search here.
I have 05 camry 4cylinder with 110k miles. Starts fine in 1 crank, Idles fine 700-850 rpm. My problem is when I rev the engine in park or neutral the engine wants to die. Its like the rpm goes below 500 rpm and goes up slowly. Its not going to stall but it wants too. Even in D, on a stop same thing happen. Change the plugs last 20k. I'm not sure if its choking, the engine is rich or needs new fuel filter or flooded. Help is appriciated. Thank

If it was running too rich it would pop a MIL and that hasn't happened. If the fuel filter was dirty the issue would be at the top end of the scale, not the bottom. It's impossible to get to anyway. Put a can of gumout in the gas to begin with. Probably won't fix this, but it will clean the injectors to some extent. Get a can of mass air flow sensor cleaner and clean that thing up. That is the most likely cause for this problem.

It's not the cat. Your problems are at the bottom end as you speed up. Cat would be killing the top end down, similar to a clogged fuel filter. Everything you have described begs of a MAF sensor or throttle body being gooped up, as well as injectors that might be getting clogged.

All this and no check engine light? Your MAF should throw a check engine if it goes below the resistance/temp it should read or if it's intermittent. (engine code P0110, P0111, and P0112 on most vehicles) I would def check the throttle body n clean it. Read the DIY on the forums for doing it, but you probably already have read that. The other thing, that I know of, that will kill your idle at a 'particular' rpm is your EGR valve. But you would know. If you slowly rev the engine up, @ around 1500 rpm or so (depending on the ECM settings) it will sputter and kick you down to really low rpm and then slowly build back up. To test that you would need a vacuum pump that a mechanic uses and hook it up to the EGR. Had that happen to me on an older vehicle of mine. Hope it's something simple for you to fix up! Hate it if my car doesn't run just right. Oh yeah, have you checked the camry stuff .com manual for troubleshooting yet?
