Things to look out for with buying used 6th gen?

Hey Guys, I'm new to the forum but I'm hoping to get educated on the issues I should be concerned about when looking to purchase a used Camry. Should I get the V6 or is the I4 with vvti good enough? I've been hearing about a common transmission problem with 07s, is there any truth in this? I'm looking forward to owning a Camry and I'm excited to get into the modifications. I just want to make sure I know what I'm buying first. Thanks for your help.

Honestly, only you can tell if you need a V6 or not, I have a gen5 I4, which is the same engine as the gen6 I4, before 2010, and many times I wish I had a V6. The V6 just feels smoother, you can tell you are putting less stress on the engine, and depending on your driving habits and the kinds of areas you drive, the gas mileage difference may be negligible. As for the transmission issues, I haven't really heard of anyone with outrageous issues, but maybe a gen6er can help you out there.

I suggest test driving the v6 and I4, it is a personal choice.

Even better rent one for the weekend and put some miles on it.

Used IMHO if buying from a private party make sure they have all maintenance records.

you want to look at waterpump, alternator, leaking radiator, see if there are any TSB's preformed on the car. I have an 07 I4 and all of three went at 80,xxx KMs, but luckily was covered under powertrain. It might be a good idea to get extended warranty protection pkg.

^ what he said, or if you can take it to a local shop/mechanic to do a full inspection to show the car is in good working order. I4 or V6 is the decision only you can make, like kiteboarder said test drive both if you can to see what you like the best, i personally went with the v6 for a smoother ride and more power, and if you really think about it, gas difference is like $200 more a year with a v6.

I don't have experience with I4 Camry engines, but my 3.5L V6 is absolutely smooth, with loads of passing power. So far the only trouble that I have had with my 07 Camry is the ignition coil (wire) that possibly be a warranty issue ($102.98 CAD for the coil and about 15 minutes of work).
