5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
On my old car, I could carry the remote separately from the keys, and lock the car from the outside with the keys in the ignition and motor running. The Camry won't let me do this, if the motor is running the lock button on the remote is ignored and it will immediately re-unlock all the doors if you press the lock button on the door panel with one of the doors open. I guess to keep people from locking their keys in their car.
I tried changing the automatic locks to mode 2 (no auto lock functionality) as per the user manual, but no dice. Any way to override this? I deliver pizza and leave the car running on a lot of short stops, would be nice to be able to lock her up.
install remote start, bypass immobilizer and it will be running even without key in ignition, but steering will be locked and as soon as someone touch brake pedal engine stalls.

but thats only when he starts the car, but when he leaves his keys the car the key will still be in the ignition and defeats the purpose of getting a remote start since it will not help him in this situation.

nop, when you need to leave, press combination or two programmed buttons on keyfob and you can pull key out off ignition lock, take them with you and lock the car, I had it on my previous car.

kaashivf, thanks, don't know how I didn't think of that. Probably because I don't have a spare key, since the doofus behind the parts counter at my Toyota dealership couldn't figure out how to cut one.
All the rest of you, go f*ck yourselves. Just kidding, thanks for the silly advice.
With my old car with the alarm, I did have remote start and when I want the car to keep running like with remote start I would press the same button and than remove the key.
