2011 I4 SE Oil CHange and 2 years scheduled matinence toyota
I just returned from the dealership thinking I was getting an oil change for my 2011 2.5 Camry SE. I received the free maintenance package in the mail with 4 coupons for service to be performed at 5,000 10,000 15,000 and 20,000 miles. the cupon states,
Premium service Plan: Synthetic Oil
Service interval: 5,000 Miles
Year 2011
make: Toyota
Model: Camry
VIN, agreement holder expiration ect.
Since our Camrys are now filled with Synthetic oil from the factory, Toyota will only do 2 oil changes at 10,000 and 20,000 miles.
Just to give any new Camry buyers a heads up, I’m coming from a 2008 camry I4 SE which did not come with synthetic oil from the factory and service for an oil change was due every 5,000miles (or 6moths). I wasted my time at the dealership 1 and an half hours for the dealership to rotate my tired and run my car through a car cheap automatic car wash.
This is my first time going to the dealership for service and needleless to say i will never return for any type of service that i can do myself at home.
If you are expecting an 4 oil changes with the purchase of your car, think again. the new guidelines for the 6.5 gen Camry’s do not require an oil change every 5,000 but rather every 10,000. in my opinion 10,000 miles is an awful long time to keep oil running in a car. Synthetic or not.
What are your thoughts???
Also my glove box light was not working so I asked them to fix it. As the rep handed me the keys he informed me that the car was not equipped with a glove box light. I said, “wow I really did not know. I thought all cars were equipped with a glove box light. Thanks for letting me know” he replied with a no problem. I then asked him to feel the bulb that was under the glove box. I said to him, I think that this car is a defect b/c I feel a bulb here and I’m 100% sure that it’s just burnt out. He quietly called someone and brought my car with the light fixed. I asked him if my car was a defect again. He just quietly shrugged his shoulders.
I have an 11 LE I4 and will do a change with a Toyota 0w20 and oem filter at 5K and 15K and let Toyota service do the 10K and 20K and then go with a 7500 mile oil and filter change interval with Toyota oil and filter.
yeah but its good to have it changed at 5K because all the crap that goes into it during the break-in.
If the filter is doing its job, then it should be catching all the crap. And if you're worried about the filter getting too full of the crap, then you should have other things to worry about...such as why there's so much crap in the engine in the first place.
It's 2010; engines nowadays are built with much stricter tolerances. These problems shouldn't exist.
I believe you should get an oil change at 5,15,and 25,000 miles.
I am not waiting to 10 k for my first oil change.
I hate stealers anyway.
They can have their free maintenance program.
I prefer to change the oil myself.
Well i did end up doing the oil change at home and to my surprise, the oil was not as dirty as when i changed the oil on the 2008 Camry between 5000 mile intervals. I’m guessing the gen6.5's .1 larger engine and a few tweaks made by Toyota make it okay to change the oil every 10,000 miles with synthetic.
I’m old school coming from changing the oil every 3,000 miles so every 5,000 miles seems like a loooong time for me. the 10,000 miles intervals is something that i would never be comfortable with. From the quality of the oil that was drained after 5,100+ miles, I’m thinking that 7,500 mile between oil changed is acceptable.
Another thing is that the oil change was not as complicated and hard as i have heard. the change with the cartridge filter is actually easier. If anyone has question on how to change the oil or removing the housing, please feel free to ask

A lot of things make 10k mile oil changes very reasonable with this engine. The oil plays a big part in that.

10,000 miles between changes is acceptable also. Don't try to re-engineer the car, folks. You're trusting Toyota with your life by driving the car to begin with, and you don't think they can get a simple oil change interval right? There have been tons of analyses on Toyota's 0W-20 oil on BobIsTheOilGuy.com and the oil is a very good, stout oil. 10k miles is no problem.
You can change it more often if you like, but know that Toyota DOES know what they're doing when they specify these oil changes. The V-6 engines are still on conventional 5W-30, and their oil change intervals are 5,000 miles accordingly. Toyota's 0W-20 synthetic oil is a stout oil that can handle 10k mile oil changes. Just drive it and forget about it.

what you say about the new oils is true. but for me and my 2010 4cyl, i will go in at the 5,000 miles intervals for the free tire rotations and have them at least replace the oil filter with the TRD oil filters i bought. i'll be paying for the labor to replace my filter every 5,000 miles, but this is ok. i'll feel better with at least a new filter every 5,000 miles. then at the 10,000 miles, have them do the free oil change, but again, with my TRD filter.
