"Do A Search"

Maybe I'm too old and come from an age where civility was taught but that's another rant.

I've only been coming here for a year+ (since we bought our new (first) Toyota). I do belong to several other forums which meet my interests. I am familiar with search functions on internet forums.

Almost all search functions work on 'key' words not on generalizations. I bring this up because if you do not know the magic 'key' word you can search all day long and not find any hits. As an example of posters jumping in with the "Do A Search" mantra, there is a thread going now where the OP asked about what other mods he can perform on his new car. Some of the first replies were to "Do A Search". Evidently the poster did not know what mods to specifically ask about (or search for) so he could not put that magic 'key' word in the Search Block and look for answers. He was simply asking "What Additional Mods Should I Be Thinking About". Put that phrase in the Search Block and see how quick you get no response.

Once again it seems to this old fart who tries to be civil (whether in person or on the internet) that people can respond with a nicer and more understanding attitude. I see the problem on this particular forum more so than on other forums I visit. Just remember that not all posters have the vast knowledge about Toyotas (or even cars) that some here do. Thus, they don't even know the magic 'key' words to search for.

Be nice everyone, it'll go a long way.

There many sticky threads "READ FIRST ......." stating many well-developed topics. After reading them, newbies should have a basic idea what mods they really want and have most necessary "key word" to search for. If they don't see the threads, it is their own fault not reading carefully.

In order to please njerald (a new coowner of the site) you MUST start your thread with "I searched" and you will be fine. He already demonstrated how civil he is in the thread #2.

Don't you just love and hate the guy?
The guy can be a douche bag at times but is very knowledgeable and helpful at times. An asset, yes an asset to the board.

Repost (do a search).

Many topics complaining about Njerald have already been done.

Also, my advice is to not complain about good information sources, whether they are not patient, nice to you or not.

Far better than no information source and bad information source.

There was a thread like this made a couple of weeks ago in the Corolla forum (which was moved to off-topic). Have a read of my reply in post #13 for some tips about how to use the search button effectively:

Please use that thread for any further posts on this issue

The OP has a valid point about the difficulty of searching the forums and using key words. The forum software is generic for internet forums and weak on its ability to return relevant search results. Still, noobs should make the effort to search the forums for past threads before posting up a new one. I’d recommend using the “Google custom search” found at the upper left corner of any forum page located just below the ToyotaNation.com logo. This feature is powered by Google so it returns search results superior to the forum’s standard search feature.

Now, back to the rudeness thing. Like Kiwi-Corolla pointed out there are a couple of past threads that deal with this subject, as well as a thread in the Camry lounge, in case you want to discuss the matter further. As far as the different Camry Gen forums are concerned you guys have had more than adequate warning about copping an attitude towards noobs, and I’m here to tell everybody that in future if I see that stuff in Camry threads I’m not hesitating to infraction or temp ban over it, depending on the severity of the insult. Consider yourselves warned.
