Gen6 Question about JBL system

I know youll probably say use the search button but i could not find the answer i was looking for. Im new to the forums just got a used 2007 camry XLE i like it except the rear JBL speaker was blown. so now i found some speakers i wanted to put in: Polk Audio Db691 6 X 9's i also found a adapter bracket on ebay. only thing i noticed was the speaker runs 4 wires 2 for the tweeter 2 for woofer so i called crutchfield and they told me there is no way to install any other speaker on the stock unit which is BS and said i would have to install a new amp. is there a way to just drop in a set of aftermarket speakers with out frying anything? if so how and what do i need to do it! Im not trying to make a huge system just want all my speakers to work reliably that is all thank you for you help in the matter

The amp puts out 2 channels for each corner, similar to what you'd get downstream of the crossover on a component speaker set. Like you said, you get a distinct signal to the tweeter and mid.

The reason you cannot just drop in an arbitrary speaker is because you don't have a full range signal on one pair.

If you want to go aftermarket: the only thing I can suggest is possibly using separate tweeter and mid components rather than a coaxial speaker like what you've chosen. You can buy tweeters and mids separately or you can get a component set that supports bi-amp. Although the latter could be a bad idea since the crossover point from the JBL system and the component set probably won't match.

Another thing to look out for is that Toyota used 2 Ohm speakers and most aftermarket speakers are 4 Ohms. While 4 Ohm aftermarket speakers will work fine, the power output is reduced accordingly.

What kind of amp are you going to run? The down side to your plan is that your rear will be potentially louder with the additional amp.

You do realize that if you put 6-1/2s in the front, you don't get a full range signal in the front door either right?

Nevermind then; for some reason I thought you were putting aftermarket speakers on the JBL system in the front doors. If you are replacing the HU and the speakers all around then you'll get full range.

Although, personally, if I were doing that much work, I'd put a component speaker set up front rather than coaxials if sound quality is a concern.
