5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Okay, in my last thread entitled "Engine Questions," I was trying to explain myself... Idk if I was clear or not. BUT the car actually runs fine now... It has 205,000+ miles on it. (2002 4cyl LE)
But, now I have a few questions...
1. Mother told me that Toyota says that the charcoal cannister has a crack in it, and costs $700 to get fixed... Well, that caused the check engine light to come/stay on... I just recently put a gas treatment in maybe two Saturdays ago, and haven't gotten any error codes, and the check engine light went off same day. If it was the charcoal cannister, don't you think the light would still be on?
2. I'm not a big-time flashy/ricey car person... I'm more into luxury/near stock but after-market looking cars. I want to know if the XLE A/C controls are swappable with the LE/SE models... The reason I ask, because the connectors may be different being that the XLE has the Security, and may also have a computer to control the module... Can this be done?
3. Why is the rear of my car sagging? I've searched TN and got nothing... I can only think of bad struts... Correct?
4. Do you think it'd be a good idea to get a sunroof and leather installed?
5. Whats a good interior painting option?
6. If I buy all the parts necessary for a projector retrofit, could someone actually help me with this? Just either PM me a list of objects I need. And FYI, I have been looking at the DIYs so...
7. Is there a such thing as a non-jbl navi that will fit in the Camry?
8. How can I tell if my car is pre-wired for fogs?
I know its a lot of questions but its better to ask than to not know, and do something stupid.
1)
2) I think the XLE has automatic climate control, which includes some temp sensor, costing A LOT if you want to replace the manual climate control.
3) Some pictures will help us see clearly.
4) It depends on your view. That is your car. If a) you like it, b) you can afford it, c) it's necessary to YOU, then go for it.
5)
6) Pawel062 is helping members do retrofit. You can search the forum or go to hidplanet.com to read more because you need to choose YOUR favorite projector.
7)
8) Look behind the bumber, if you see the wiring harness over there, you have it. However, it may not be connected to the power source. OEM-Style Foglight Install
Look at "Photo of the factory wiring harness, which didn't work" picture to see the harness.
Okay, I'm back with another "The Car Won't Start" issue.
I just recently got my oil changed at walmart yesterday, and it was running fine before then... I drove it to Atlanta, 3 hrs away from the Walmart I got it done at, and it did fine. I got here, turned it off, and came back maybe 10 minutes later, tried to crank it, and it didn't turn over, BUT it did try. Tried it again immediately after that, and it started, slowly... Drove it to a store here, and back to the house... Turned it off, tried it again, turned over even slower. Turned it off, tried it again....
Now, all I get is a hum (sounds like a pump or something), and its not from the engine bay... More like from the rear of the car. In the engine area, all I hear are the high pitch whines of what I guess is the electrical system operating... It doesn't click, the lights don't dim, it doesn't do anything. All I hear is that hum each time I turn the key.
I called O'reilys auto parts, and they said it was deffinitely the starter. But I wanted more opinions on this issue... If you need any other information, or if I wasn't clear enough, just let me know.
In a previous thread and in a previous post, I told you what to do to check the battery, alternator and eliminate them as problems. Your problem might now be the starter, but you don't know and won't until you follow the previous directions. As for adding HID light, a sunroof, new springs, and host of other crap to a car with 205000 miles, please tell me that you are joking. Put the money in a jar and save up for a newer car that is running, or spend the money on basic components to keep this one running a little longer, like a rebuilt starter in this case. If just want to see money flushed down a toilet you don't have to even leave your home to do it.

I would just buy a new car if it has so many issues
Well, everything checked out fine after I put a new starter on there... The battery and alternator were checked by Toyota, and they both were fine. I need a tune up, so I will get that done Saturday.
Its doing good now...
Its been in the family since October of 2001... Never had a tune-up (not my doing), so I kinda expected all sorts of problems anyway...
