Question 2003 Camry VSC warning light

When I went to have my camry inspected, the VSC warning light was not on and had never been on since I bought the car new. During the inspection the mechanic hooked up the computer connection to verify the codes. He installed my inspection sticker and I got in to leave. When I started my car the VSC warning light stayed on (along with the traction control light). I asked the mechanic about it to see if the computer connection maybe triggered the light. He said "Not a chance". The coincidence is just too great for a problem to show up at exactly the same time as the inspection was finished. Does anyone have any thoughts here?

Talk to us about the inspection. Was it on a dynomometer that might have had the wheels spinning, or was it driven on a rack in which the tires might have lost traction for a moment? Is the light still on, and how far have you driven and how many times have you restarted the car since the event?

The car was not on a rack or lifted. The light is still on. I talked to the dealer and was told that if the battery was not at full charge when the computer was connected, it may have caused the warning light to go on, and will need to have a "zero calibration" done to reset the light ($40). He said the best way to ensure this doesn't happen again is to put a trickle charge on the battery during the time the computer connector is connected. This should preclude the problem in the future.

Disconnect your battery and that should reset your system. If the light stays off your good.
