Canada 2005 Camry LE 2.4L Rotors replaced 6 times

Hi Folks,

Thank you for viewing my post.

Has anyone seen a problem with rotors on a 05 Camry being warped shortly after 10,000KM. The problem is always the same when travelling at 100KM/Hr and coming to an exit and applying the bakes the steering wheel starts to shake. The problem gets worse over time until the pads and rotors are replaced.

I have replaced the rotors myself 4 times over the last 80,000KM and just had a reputable mechanic change the last pair 2 months again and again the car is doing the samething.

Each time the front rotors are replaced the the hub is cleaned and sanded. The caliper slids are grease and I make sure they slide easily. The piston on the caliper is tested to move freely in and out.

I have tried defferent types of rotors even ones directly from the dealer. All last about 20,000KM tops until they all start doing the same vibration.

I do not drive crazy and over heat brakes by doing hard stopping and starting.

Does anyone have any ideas of what may be the problem?

Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

I replaced my rotors at 22k.. What kind of rotors are you buying, advance or autozone quality might be the problem. Try using oem. I purchased napa rotors they seem to be holding up very well.

I got my '04 with 28k on it in early '06 and lived with the noise and feel of the warped rotors (really only noticeable on a high speed hard stop) until the pads wore down at 67k earlier this summer. I put on a set of ATE slotted rotors and a set of Hawk HPS pads from Tire Rack. So far no warping, but I've put on only 2,000 miles since then. I will say I'm not happy with the performance of these brakes at low speed and light pressure, because they grab right at the end of the stop, making the car jerk a bit.

I replaced mine around 65k miles with Cryotreated Power Slots and Hawk Ceramics. Since then I've been 10k miles with no problems. It's my wifes car and she doesn't drive crazy, but I wanted some good reliable rotors and pads and all of my friends that I work on cars with and race with say this setup should be good. Plus I've auto crossed on this setup with braided lines on my car for the past few years and my rotors haven't warped. I would definitely say look for a better quality rotor. When I changed my wifes rotors I found out that Centric owns Power Slot. Centric rotor aren't slotted or drilled, but I would think that they are made with the same quality as the Power Slots being that they make the Power Slot rotors that have done me well for 5 yrs and almost 100k miles.

Hi 94PrizmDD,

Thanks for your input. I have tried the Advanced auto parts after market rotors and Euro Rotors that can easily be found in Canada. I have also tried the rotors from Toyota, all seem to do the samething after 10,000KM on them.

Thanks,
Deni

Get some el cheapo organic pads (aka not ceramic) and see if it keeps on occurring. Ceramic pads like to heat up like a mofo.

Also you might be warping the rotor if you use an impact gun to re tighten the wheels or you over tighten by hand, start using a torque stick.

That along with dragging the brakes = tons of warpage.

You are riding the brakes.

I have 200,000 miles on my V6 original rotors and still within spec, only changed the pads (used OEM).

The warping of rotors is caused by bad calipers (or very bad driving). Even if the calipers are cleaned and the piston(s) slide easily, it could have been a manufact. defect calipers. (Pressure being put more on one side of the pad than the other, causing a warp on the rotor and the pads wearing unevenly) I had the same problem with my old car. I had to replace the pads and rotors every year, only driving maybe 10,000 miles a year.

I got used car with original rotors in bad shape. replaced them with NAPA gold rotors $120, and Wagner ceramic brakes $50.
close to 20K now-all good, pads not even 30% worn out, no wear on rotors.

it is not the rotors, its the calipers. You can take them apart and rebuild them yourself or go to a shop.

Warpage can also happen if the rotor is very hot, and comes in contact with water. Such as rain or a puddle. I honestly dont know what caused mine to warp but its fine now. Its been about 15k miles so far.

Deniborrelli do you drive with 2 feet? There are people who do and they ride on the brake while they drive. Most likely heating them up to the point of warpage. Or at least going thru pads like crazy

I know this sounds crazy but have your tires road force balanced. Yes your tires road force balanced. Even though they might feel balance go and do it. I had the exact same problem as you, I ran through rotors like crazy. Tires felt fine. I always install my own rotors use same autozone brand. I first thought after replacing rotors it was a caliper problem so I paid $$$ to have both fronts replaced. It still did not correct the problem, I was heart broken. I was out of warranty, so I had no recourse. I finally talk to a about to retire mechanic one day. He told me have the tires road force balanced and then put new rotors on. I thought the guy was kinda nuts at first. I said the tires feel fine, he smiled and said just have it done. Well after 5 rotor changes and two sets of tires. I was at wits end and willing to try anything. I once again put the same brand rotors on and had the tires road force balanced.... End of Problem. It's been years now and it ended the warping problem.

That doesn't sound like a bad idea. Do you still have the same tires ? how often do you rotate them? How often do you balance them?

Generally I have my tires rotated every 5,000 miles. I have them rotated front to back and not cross pattern so it won't disturb the road force balance.. As the road force balancer, I believe specifies what side to put the tires on. A good road force balance should last the life of the tire or pretty close to. I'm on I don't know several sets of tires since I last replaced my rotors. Which was a long time ago. I have every set of tires road force balanced. You might have to call around to see who road force balance tires.
