5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Just bought a 2011 camry SE few days ago. My first 4 cylinder car, but is it common for this car to have this electronic humming sound when i press the gas pedal?
I called the dealer but they said it will go away after the breaking period...
Is this true? I test drove a different 2.5 before I chose this one and I don't remember hearing anything like this.
My 2.5L SE has the same thing.... when i was picking the car at the dealership. I test drove 3 of them and they all sounded the same. Sounds like an electric supercharger lol

Does the level of the sound or whine get louder after you have been on a moderately long run, then stop and when you start to move from the stop, it changes with the engine RPM?
I have this type of problem, changes volume and pitch with RPM, loudest when hot.
My whine was located last month by another dealer as I was leaning toward a transmission issue.
It was diagnosed as a bad power steering pump, mine was peaking at between 2,200 and 2,800 RPM. I am scheduled in to have it replaced this Tuesday.
The Tech isolated it by removing the serpentine belt.
I will post an update later.

Mine has a touch of a "whine" noise, but it's pretty quiet. I can hear it if I have the radio off and the windows down. Otherwise, with normal sounds of radio and HVAC, etc, it's not really that loud. If you can hear it with everything going (if it's that loud), then it's probably not normal. I drove two different 2.5L 2011 Camrys (mine was the second one I drove) and neither had an obvious whine sound to it.

I have a 2011 XLE and I hear mine in the background, with the radio set to a "7" and the automatic climate control blower speed is 2 steps below max.
I feel that the sound is being transmitted through the steering wheel shaft into the cabin. I couldn't hear it with the windows down, too much other noise. It sounds very similar to an alternator whine from the radio, but I couldn't turn it off with the radio......

when i test drove, it was hot so the a/c was pumping all the way, that's probably why I didn't hear it. Also, who would of thought a new car would make this kind of noise.
Even after a long highway ride and as i exit out and stop and go, it's pretty loud. It is like a kid whining. My thought was something to do with the alternator but i will bring it in next week.
After a 160 mile round trip, $17.00 toll, no repairs were done.......
This was after i was notified or told both parts were in.... A total of two trips for problems and nothing was fixed, might be looking for another dealer.

Correct, the closest one that I purchased my 07 Camry from, kept messing things up. The problems they created would only occur after about 90 days and 1500 miles. The big one was the warping of the rotors after a tire rotation, over torquing the lug nuts. After 3 times getting them fixed, I wouldn't trust them with a roller skate, they were repaired two times at another dealer while traveling, and were beginning again. (Try to prove that one.) I dumped the car for a new one with extended warranty. I had other issues with other vehicles they couldn't fix, one was a bad cruse control switch and the other was a bad sensor in the ignition system. Each of the replacement parts cost less than $20.00.

Plus the electronic (EC) mirror which was just loose on it's mount. I torqued it at home, after it was "serviced".....

Reason: Spelling? oops....
Duh. I can't read. Let us know if that fixes the noise!
I have escalated all of the issues to the corporate level, they were to contact me on September 17, but have not. I have received no updates from the dealer either....
I will be on travel for the next 2 weeks, but in contact. I will post any updates.
(I copied and pasted rather than explain it again and it was faster, not a good typist. Sorry.......)

The "whine" in the 2.5L is an issue with all gen 6.5's according to the corporate representative I talked to today. A test drive of a brand new LE confirmed the issue. I hope Toyota will provide a resolution to this apparently "wide spread issue".........SOON. I have the full coverage extended warranty, no cost, just very annoying. I tried to see if the gen 6 2.4L power steering pump is interchangeable with the gen 6.5 2.5L, without any luck. I will have to wait till next summer while on vacation...... To many other commitments between now and then.

The new Camrys have lots of little noises all the time.....it's annoying but I just crank the radio and forget about it. I spent so much time fixing every little thing on my last car that I don't want to even bother messing with this one. lol
