Just got car, P0015 code

Hey guys, I introduced myself last week when I was planning on picking up this car in Ohio and driving it back home to TN. About halfway through the trip home, check engine light came on. Autozone scanned it and got code "P0015".

I searched that in this forum and found this: tsb-0094-09

Having trouble deciphering all that info. Can anyone help me out? Is this a problem I need to have fixed before something bad happens, or is it just an annoyance issue?

It's an 07 V6 SE with 75000 on it. I just got it yesterday, so I am sad

Please advise, and thank you!

Here is a link to the actual TSB...

tsb-0094-09

This looks like a HUGE deal to fix, replacing the actual camshaft? Sheesh... Please tell me this isn't something that's going to be a problem if I don't fix it. Can't find anyone else's experiences with this...

There is a ticking noise issue that accompanies that TSB. The P0015 is for the VVTi. In order to clear that code, you have to replacet the VVTi, however, the new updated VVTi doesn't fit the old cam, and thus the repair becomes a trickle effect. Everything is updated and so on, the new won't fit the old etc.

If you didn't fix it, the check engine light will continue to come on, and in some rare cases we have seen that the cam gear come apart. But those a rare, but can happen.

Really have to determine if yo need one to both banks, but labor is about 16hrs and parts are about $1700.00 per side. Our labor rate is $89.95 so that comes to $1439.20, but each dealer charges differently and in some cases the labor can change based on the job. But, this is to give you an idea of what is involved.

On a bit of good news, in most cases, it is usually one one side that needs to be done.

I sincerely wish you the best of luck on that hand hope nothing happens either, because if it does, it will be real expensive.

Good luck and if you need anything, don't hesitate to contact me.

FYI, when you are ready for this or anything else, I to offer TN members 30% off MSRP and I only charge actual shipping costs plus $1.00 -$2.00 for materials, etc.

I have a service manual for my car. But in reality, how hard is this to tackle on your own? Error indicates bank 1 exhaust cam only.

I've changed alternators, starters, distributors, PS pumps, brakes, etc... But never anything as major as this. I understand and know what all the parts are and their functions though...

This repair included tearing half of the top end of the engine apart. Cams, gears, housings, have to be removed and replaced. It takes our trained techs a good 3/4 to a whole day to do one. Keep that in mind.

If you do this yourself, get a large flat table and cover it with a towel so things don't roll away. Get some small bowls to section off nuts and screws, and have the camera ready to take many photos so you can reference them when it goes back together. Hope you have the torque values for major bolts.

THIS is exactly what I just logged in to ask! What's happening to the cam sprocket on the end there to trigger this code? I haven't had the code come back since autozone checked it...
