2011 Camry - 3 Star Safety Rating

Us women... I swear... we threw the whole rating off. The 2010 Camry with the old system got a 5 Star rating... the 2011 gets a 3 Star rating today with the new system because they started using women dummies and apparently Camrys aren't built with women's stature or safety in mind

I'm glad they're using the new dummies but sad that the "official" rating is lower for '11. Wonder if that will affect resale values?

Or is this another ploy to ruin Toyota's reputation some more? I'm not saying the ratings are inaccurate, it's just an interesting coincidence. Wonder how my old 98 Sunfire would have stacked up....it had 1 star with the dummies back in the day. LMAO

As you can see the old system gave the Sonata a 3, and now a 4 with the new system for front crashes.

I like how they pick BIG vehicles that would fare better in front/rear crashes due to size instead of the cars that people will be driving...i.e. Mazda 3, Focus, Corolla, etc. (although I do see the Fiesta in here as a 4)

It's just another case of the government setting the bar too low so that almost everything would pass and look safe.

Like everything else the government does, it was soon rendered meaningless, but is finally more realistic.

Maybe so, but their determining factors in addition to the female dummies were if the cars came standard with Lane Keep Assist, Pre-Crash assist, EBD, etc. A lot of cars they tested are high end with all that nanny stuff (I'm not trying to offend anyone I believe in DRIVING the car, not having the car drive YOU).
