I think you mean speed, so MPH. MPG is your mileage and how many miles you get per gallon of gas.

It could be unbalanced wheels, a bad bearing, or sticking brakes. My bet is on the first one.

MPG?

It's most likely the balancing. Do you have aftermarket wheels? If so, then you might need to get some hubcentric rings to eliminate the vibrations at high speed.

I had an off-balance wheel/tire and the steering wheel vibrated like crazy around 50-60 "MPG"

um, things like this can happen if you go over a pothole or somethin on the road, I'd suggest getting the tires checked out at a tire shop..one of your tires must be off by 1/2- 3/4 lb (became unbalanced)

I think I paid like..15 bucks to get it checked out and fixed? well good luck

Might be tire cupping.

is this the same car some one else was driving and destroyed it, and you had it fixed.........??

Axle oil leaking!

if so, then i'd suspect it wasn't fixed properly..........

then too, the speed limits ARE NOT 80 mph........!!!!!!

The usual suspect. Check this first before jumping to any other conclusions.

This most likely a problem with tire/wheel balancing or the tires themselves have belts inside that may have shifted. When belts shift, it throws the balancing off. If the belts have shifted, the only cure is to get new tires.

You said you had the wheels rotated about a month ago. Were the tires/wheels rebalanced at that time? Was that when this problem started? If so, were the tires on the rear of the car there for some time; like 20,000 or 25,000 miles? If so, the tires that were in the rear and are now in the front, may be cupped as GT-R pointed out. With front wheel drive cars most of the weight is carried by the front tires. The rear tires don't carry much weight and as a result of that they can actually bounce a bit. If left on the rear for an extended period of time, that bouncing can actually cup the rear tires. You generally don't feel it as long as they are in the rear, but rotate those rear tires to the front and the cupping is noticable as vibration through the steering wheel. Again, the only cure is new tires.

Mike

OP also drove the car through a rough patch on the highway and damaged several components under the car...maybe tires were damaged?
