Clunk in the trunk

Developed an annoying clunk in my trunk. Thought it may have resulted from the 23mm rear sway bar I installed. After re-greasing the RSB bushings and torquing everything to spec, the clunk was still there.

It wound up being a loose bolt at the top of the passenger side rear stabilizer link. The part that holds the RSB to the rest of the suspension. I never touched this during the RSB install. The RSB bolts to the bottom of this link, but I never did anything to the top bolt. Hmmm.

Loc-tite blue and torqued to spec. No more clunk in the trunk.

I have a similar clunking sound in my car. Maybe it is the same underlying issue... I'll check it out tomorrow.

Curious on whether this clunk from the trunk came from where your shocks are. I'm experiencing the same thing after I installed my coilovers...

The bolt that was causing the clunk on mine is most easily accessable by removing the rear wheel. There, you can get a socket on it and tighten it down. It is the bolt that connects the top of the rear stabilizer link to the strut assembly. I checked camrystuff.com for the torque spec. Gen-6, suspension, page 67. 29 ft/lbs

Checked all bolts. Unfortunately its a faulty coilover. The compression rate is set too low so its bottoming out sometimes. Bad luck =/

Clunk in Trunk of my 06 Camry

My 06 Camry has developed an annoying "clunk in the trunk" this past winter. Thought it was some stuff I kept in the trunk but it isn't. The car has 108,000 miles and is stock (no mods). Is this a common problem with Camry's? Is it time for shocks? Appreciate any help. Thanks.. .

Clunk in the Trunk - Resolved!

Well, the "clunk" got to the point where I couldn't take it anymore. It started sounding like a broken leaf spring on an old car so I took it to a shop where they discovered worn rear sway bar bushings! Shop said they were a dealer item and said "You pick them up and we'll install them for $30 plus tax. Long story short: $20 for the bushings + $30 for the labor = no more clunk in the trunk! Hope this helps someone.. .

My car was just diagnosed with the same issue. Toyota wanted $180 So, I walked and will be looking for someone else to do the labor.

UPDATE: I had the bushings replaced for a total of $66 from my local trusted mechanic. The car rides and sounds much better now.

I've been complaining to my dealer for this for like two years. I hear it on the drivers side when i turn, but the dealer can never find the problem. I figured it was a bad bushing.
