05 Camry V6 XLE Steering Pull

Hi guys. I purchased this Camry from my father's estate. He definitely babied it. I have this strange steering pull when I accelerate into passing gear. It seems like engine torque is causing it to pull. I know that sounds strange but that is how it seems. It never happens until I quickly accelerate. I'm taking into the dealership later on. I just wanted to see if you had this issue or knew anything about it. Thanks in advance.

Front wheel drive cars are notorious for what you are referring to as "torque steer". The way the engine is mounted has much to do with it, along with rotating masses. If it's subtle when you gas it, then it's normal. Especially with the v6. It's got some juice!!

since you say your dad "babied the car", then he would have taken care of any problems. I do believe it's true, you are talking about torque steer which is a very common situation among front wheel drive cars. but to set your mind at ease, take it to a garage or dealer. but expect to pay for thier time for them to say its normal. also, be sure you have the correct air pressure in all the tires.

Thanks 11LE. I've been driving front wheel drive cars for quite some time but this was the first time I noticed it. Sometimes, depending on speed, it does seem to be quite strong of a pull. The 6 does seem to be pretty strong for a 6 cylinder though. With the very tight steering it can get a little squirrely at time due to this pull and road conditions. If you aren't aware of the pull, I think it might get away if not careful. I became very away of it in Tennessee when going to pass in a two lane. Roads weren't real good though either.

I keep an eye on tire pressure. That was fine. No other problems related to steering have been noticed. The steering is exceptionally tight, no pull related to alignment, that's just the only time I see this issue. You don't have to kick it down to passing gear to feel it. It's just greater the more torque you put on the engine.

Thanks guys for your input. That got me headed in the right direction for forum searches. It does seem to be the issue. I guess I'll just get used to it. I've only put about 10,000 miles on it. It only has 59,000 on it now. With the other Toyota's I have had, it has a long way to go left in it.
