2007 SE Sway Bar Bushings and Pins

We are having a loud thump sound every time we hit a bump. We thought the rear drivers side shock may be bad. We carried it in and received a $680 quote to replace the rear sway bar bushings and pins. They said the shock was fine.

Is this something that I could do my self?

Thanks

Absolutely. This is not brain surgery work. It's possible that something has just come loose because that stuff shouldn't be worn out yet unless you drive on a test track for a living. Jack it up and block it so you don't get any surprises, then check the torque on the bolts and see if anything is loose. Spray some silicon lube and maybe some white grease on the joints and see if it cures the problem before spending any serious money.

lol, we don't drive on a test track. But we do have close to 95,000 miles on the car. Where is the best place to buy sway bar bushings and pins. The mechanic checked and said they were definitely worn out.

if i were you i would just upgrade to the UR sway bar. Comes with new bushings. Im a 18 yearold kid and i did it in my driveway...Actually when i did mine i forgot to tighten one of the swaybar links to the sway bar itself and it made a clunking sound. Crawl under there and tighten everything first. But if i were you id get a UR bar and call it a day.

How much is a UR Bar?

So are you saying that I may just need to tighten everything?

i would check and see that everything is tight before i spend any kind of money. Check the brackets and make sure they're tight. Check the bushings, and also make sure the bar itself is tight on the sway bar links. WHat i did was had a friend jump on the back door frame to rebound the suspention to see exactly where the noise was coming from and i could actually see the swaybar link moving. A UR sway bar is only about 200 bucks and it comes with new bushings/brackets.

+1. Check the bushings and sway bar end links to make sure they are tight. If they are tight then check to see if the bushings are really worn. If they're not worn unbolt the sway bar end links and check to see how loosely they move at the joint (pretty much if you can move them with your pinky then they're bad). A good friend of mine, whose been a mechanic for as long as I've been living, told me that if I hear a noise from my rear end it would most likely be the end links. He said he's seen it happen to a lot of different vehicles. Like everyone else said the sway bars aren't hard to replace nor are the end links so you could easily do this yourself in your driveway or a parking lot.

To swap out the sway bar you need some space under you, on a lift in other words. It would be easier to replace the minor parts, and those are best found at the dealer or ordered from our good guys here on TN.
