the black finish on my stock 2007 camry muffler is chipping off..until I get the money to purchase a new exhaust, how should I go about painting it? Its chipping off on the tail end, so people behind me can see it. Looks like crap. I have a can of BBQ Black paint that is heat resistant. Do you think I can just spray it right on? or do I have to remove the exhaust first. thankyou

I've seen it on about 80% of all Gen6+ Camrys and Gen3+ Avalons I've come across. The muffler itself is painted black on the outside, making it less visible since the whole thing hangs low relative to where the rear bumper sits at its lowest point. It also accents the chrome exhaust tip more. But over time this coating flakes off slowly.

lol yep, I see this alllllllll the time here on the what I would assume are 07 and 08 Camrys.
I also think they hit them on the curb while parking but not sure if that's your case.

To answer the actual question, yes, use the grill high temp paint, or go to Pep Boys and buy essentially the same thing that is used for exhaust manifolds. I can't imagine that you need to remove anything, but a piece of stiff card stock might be useful to avoid over spraying onto the actual body paint.

You can easily spray it on the car. Slip a sheet of newspaper over the top of the muffler and tape it to the bumper to avoid getting overspray on the paint and spray away!

OR you could do what I did and buy an exhaust tip from Ebay. This improves the look substantially and would cover up the paint chips.
I think I got mine for around $25.

u also might want to wrap something on the exhaust tip incase your hands slip while the nozzle is depressed lol, also plasti-dip works wonders as well, its durable and is water resistant
