5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I never buy the first year of a new model. So a smart choice would be to buy the latest year within a model (the 2011) or wait it out for gen 7 to be worked free of kinks, as in give it a year or two.

Buy the last model year and have an "old" car that's already been on the road for 7 years.
It depends on what you're looking for of course, but model year 2 or 3 is certainly a good bet.
OP: I'm guessing next camry is going to be a 2013 MY available in 2012.

I agree.
Especially that Toyota quality has been dropping.
Camry deals are great right now.
it was in my sunday newspaper.....toyota is far behind all the others from this time last year. sales fell off during the summer, and toyota dropped the incentives. toyota is hurting for sales which will make this a better time to buy. one can talk them down. even "joeb" agrees.....
There are a number of factors to consider when purchasing a new car whose body style is about to change. Nobody has leaked photography of the new style but it is hinted that it might not change substantially. All in all though, it will be a new generation, and it should begin production in February if history is a guide, and likely available in March as a 2012. Waiting until 2015 to get the updates to this style are likely not in the cards for you. You can put off buying a new car only so long! As for first year design and fitment issues, they tend to be overblown. What you should do here is no different than with any vehicle. Find or order the one you want, and then give it a decent test drive, looking for issues. Since the I4 engine was just introduced recently, I would expect it to be carried over to the new generation along with the existing V6 which has worked well. Money is an issue, and the new model is likely to be stickered a little higher, and with most body style changes, the discounts aren't as deep as when they are attempting to dump old stock. So the question goes to your court and is this: Are you willing to pay a little more for a new body style that will be 'current' for the next five years, or are you more inclined to save a little money but buy a car whose body style will be a generation old in about 4 months? If it were me and I could wait, I would want to see what the new one looks like before making a decision. Just don't be overly concerned about major problems with the car. Issues with the engines and transmissions have been worked through at this point and they are unlikely to see many changes.

Uhhhh Toyota may be "slightly" behind both GM and Ford...
Being #3, it'll be aw hile before they dropping any more spots. Hell, I really wish they'd drop to #10 so I don't have to see so many other Toyotas on the road.

+1 Everytime I get behind someone slow it's a Toyota. Accident, Toyota. That's because 1 in 4 cars I see is a Toyota. It's not uncommon for me to be passing other Camrys just like mine....on a daily basis.

yep, glad you confirmed what i had said was in the papers......good boy, good boy......
If you change your car ever few years I would wait and get the new model. Hell… if I could wait… I would get the new model. You know it will look SICK. BUT here is Toyota's history. The 2007 Camry had a lot of problems. I personally purchased (second hand of course the 2000 Celica. My celica had a piston ring problem from factory... they only corrected this problem in 2003 so people who waited one year or even two years still got screwed. Almost wrote off Toyota because of my Celica problem but I can't afford Honda.
