5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I was looking to change the headlights (not DRL) for a 2011 Camry SE with bulbs that look like HIDs (bright white). Most places only list upto 2010 models so I am not sure what kind of bulb it is (9905/9006/Halogen/non halogen .. etc. etc.) and where I can buy them.
Its a lease so I dont want to upgrade it with a HID kit.
( I apologize if its a very n00b question .. but after looking through all the sticky's and DIY's .. I figured out how to change it .. I just dont know what to replace them with)
Also, they last a fraction of what your stock bulbs would last. They may even run a very high toll on your harness and melt some stuff!
Why not go HID? The ballasts are transferrable and if the next car you buy has different bulb types, simply buy the corresponding bulb type off of ebay for 20 dollars, shipped. Most HID bulbs are the same, just rebranded.

I suggest goin w/ HID, the digital ballast everybody been raving about. cost like under 50bucks for a kit.

The best reasonably-priced halogen bulb you can get is the Sylvania Xtravision. It's available from Walmart for $11.99 each, so for a total of 25 bucks, you can upgrade both low beam bulbs (H11 as posted above). I wouldn't buy the Sylvania Silverstar or Silverstar Ultra personally. I'd stay away from any coated bulb. With a coated bulb, you either get less light or less bulb life, and often both.
There are some fantastic bulbs out there, like the Philips Vision Plus, OSRAM Silverstar (not Sylvania), Narva RangePower, Philips Xtremevision, etc. But any of these are likely going to cost you $20-30 for each bulb, and you may have to mail order.
I have the Sylvania Xtravision in mine and it's a nice upgrade, cheap, and legal. My 2011 with the XVs:
All bulbs are the same, I've tried silvania xtravision, ultravision, megavision, and all kinds of tinted bulbs and they're all the same as stock, not any brighter (some decrease your visibility), just your wallet getting thinner.
If you want brighter bulbs, go get HID, otherwise save your money and keep the stock.
Thanks guys! I love the look of the Sylvania Xtravision .. but am leaning towards HID. The only thing I was worried about was voiding any kind of agreement on the lease by making mods to put in HID.

Buy another set of headlights (i.e, Depo headlights) and do retrofit on it.
