5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
How much would you pay for a 2002 Camry 174K miles?
2002 Camry SE 4cylinder, 5-speed Manual. 174K miles, one owner, very clean interior. All around great condition. Has towing package. Runs/Drives like new. Texas Area
I'm in Texas. Might be worth more elsewhere but in this part of the country it doesn't matter if the car is pristine or not. With that mileage, it is viewed as a junker.

Well assuming it is well-maintained and show NO obvious signs of wear, these cars have a local market value. People are still getting good money on Craigslist for 4th generations with over 200K. Dealer trade-in on this car using TMV on Edmunds is still over $3200. Im in the Texas area too, and I would be amazed to see a 5th generation under $2000 in RUNNING condition. Hope some other people weigh in on this. Thanks
Get it checked by a trusted mechanic, especially the tranny because of the tow package. Ask the seller how much towing they actually did, and what they were towing exactly.
what do the seats look like in overall wear and how does the exterior look.
I have a 2002 xle 4 cylinder loaded thats extra clean that I'm about to sell after I got the new one and I could get close to 6k for it, 4500 from the dealer and it has 125k miles on it.
If you can get that for 4k or less and its clean and no problems mechanically i would say go for it.
The original question was what would I pay for the car. What was not mentioned was if it was a private party deal, dealer, did it have maintenance records, leather seats, fairly decent tires, clean filters, good brakes, etc. What do the records say about replacement parts such as cam drive, water pump, transmission fluids.....if the car is well maintained then it is worth more, but with the mileage it is a crap shoot at best, and you are looking at the potential of replacing a lot of stuff in a short time.

I'm in Tx as well. 174k and stick kills this car, even if it clean.
I was looking to sell 2001 4 cyl 90K very clean for 5 grand-for 1.5 month-no luck. eventially I trade it for 4K on 2007 Camry 60K for $11.300 1.5 yers ago- great deal at that time.
Now days prices dropped even more.Got friend who bought 2007 camry 4 cyl 25K
for $ 12K month ago.
book value is nothing.
I wouldn't pay more than 2500 for 174K and stick shift.
Put these money down and get newer car.

Last week I sold my 2000 Celica with 218K had the piston ring problem, had to add two quarts of oil every time I filled up with gas!!!! Car was not mint... lots of minor blemishes, had a bunch of after market parts TRD exhause, CAI, short shifter, left the radio and cables and speakers but took the amps and sub. SOLD for $950.00
I would not pay more then $2K

I agree; up here in NJ/NY zone $1400.00 is where you start to nego the deal

is this the same car you were crying about in this thread....
Yeah, using three or more question marks after a sentence points out exactly who's crying in this thread.
Otherwise, thanks for the responses. I bought the car for $3,500. Regarding the interior: cloth, very clean, everything works and back seats are hardly used. Mechanically, like i said the car has low idle when the a/c compressor is on, but it only runs slightly rougher. There are no leaks, and I have driven it already over 300 miles trouble-free. The clutch question i had wasn't addressed by anyone, but i just wanted an idea of what this model's clutch is supposed to feel like. Either way the clutch feels firm without grinding/slipping/shaking/anything else. Many other things to list, but nothing else bad.
