Question What kind of adhesive for roof molding?

I found a couple similar threads in this forum, but none of them I found to be satisfactory for my purposes.

The car: 2003 Toyota Camry LE

The problem: passenger side roof molding and front retaining clip blew off. Rear clip still in place.

I consulted the dealer about this and they're willing to sell me a replacement molding and clips. However, I was advised that they normally refer this work to body shops because of a "special adhesive" used to fasten the clips to the body. He failed to specify what kind of adhesive this was. Does anybody with any kind of body work/trim repair experience know exactly what kind of adhesive I should be using to ensure the next clip and molding doesn't get blown off?

Anything you can chip in would be appreciated.

I'd tell the dealer the original adhesive wasn't very good anyway since it blew off while you were driving down the road so why would you want to pay them to put more of it on your car?

The dealer did not offer to do it. It was referred to a body shop. However, if I can get a hold of the right adhesive and prep materials, I could simply do it myself. But how and with what?

I'd say adhesive remover and 3m double sided molding tape. You can get this at any auto parts store. Remove the left over adhesive, then place the tape on the molding then stick in groove. Done deal.
