Exclamation Blue Smoke

2007 Camry XLE 3.5
My baby is puking out blue smoke. This happened over night no warning at all. Its real bad in the morning and also while idling at a red light. There is not much info on the newer Gens with high miles. The only thing I ever had to replace where brakes, tires oil changes and the Battery. I have 145k mostly highway miles. I have read here and there could be emission stuffs? Never had any codes either. Anyone have any ideas? I'm hoping its not the valve seals.
Thx

Most oil consumption problems are old valve stem seals.

You can also do a compression check to evaluate the general condition of the rings, but it only tells you the compression rings. The oil control rings may be gummed up but a compression check won't tell you directly. It's only an indirect way to see what shape the oil rings may be in.

You might want to try a High Mileage oil and see how it may help, before going to a heavier viscosity. What weight of oil do you use? And the oil change interval? The 3.5L's filter is so small it's a joke.

I would also try running seafoam through your engine. Cleans it out real nice, gets out any carbon deposits and gunk. Get it from your local auto/hardware store.

Most likely. Especially if you live in a climate where the temperatures fluctuate. Hot, then cold will cause the seals to dry out and crack so they don't 'seal' as good as they once did.

Im going with bad valve seals, especailly given the fact that you're right at the miles they start breaking down. At about 100 - 150K or so. Not the end of the world, but I wouldn't let it go for to long.

You say it happened all of a sudden. I find it difficult to believe that valve seals, gummed up rings, or even a stopped up PCV valve would cause a SUDDEN smoking problem. Have you by chance pulled up to a diesel pump by mistake and pumped some diesel in the tank.

Don't get me wrong, it could be any or all of the above, but happening overnight sure throws a red flag up to me. Think about what you've done just before it happened. Good luck and let us all know what you find.

I'd be careful with the sea foam option. I know a guy who sea foamed three of his cars each one the head cracked.

Could be that if the OP is in a colder climate, he's now noticing the smoke due to the cold weather... or just happened to notice it since it is coming out of the rear of the car. It could have been going on for a few weeks and he just happened to look up at the right time.

I thought diesel pumps had a specific type nozzle that prevented it from being put into a gas tank to avoid just that issue.

Question Wierd

Last Weds I did use the seafoam (1/3 can), drive it about 80 miles and changed the oil. It smoked for two more days (Not a little but alot so I doubt it was still burning off but ya never know) and Sat Morning poof it stopped. Now Sunday and no evidence it had ever smoked. I don't believe this has a PCV valve at least they are not calling it that. Maybe something to do with the weather causing a part to fall? 70f during the day and 29f at nite.
I still think maybe an emission problem. I drive this car alot and I would have noticed it creeping up.
Thx for all your replies,
