CD player says CD IN and then Error 1 when there is no CD

Hello all,

In our 2009 Camry with 41K miles, the JBL CD player started acting up as of last night. It says CD in where there is no cd in the player. When I try to play the CD (that is supposedly in) I get ERROR 1. When I try to eject it, the CD IN in the display blinks for a while and then no cd is ejected but the CD IN still is enumerated on the display.

What seems to be the problem?

Thanks,
M.

You can fix it spend a few hundred at a stealership OR... just buy a new radio may be cheaper then trying to get it fixed...,

Or take a chance and see if you can fix it yourself....

That's a fault in the loading sensor which tells the motor to run when the CD is loaded. It's not spinning, so the laser won't read the disc and comes up with Error 1. It's a tricky and expensive fix and not worth the hassle. The dealers often can't fix it or clear the error. Your best bet (and cheapest alternative) would be to purchase an aftermarket deck, even if it's used.
