tire options?

hey fellas,

just wanted your input as to which one you would get. i got 09 camry le running on crappy stock michelin energy mxv4 s8 p215/60/R16 94V which are crappy and pricey. i got 40k on them and a little scare driving in the rain. the threads are still good but just hate these tires. i live in center texas so ice and snow is no biggie but the rain does kill me. i almost lost control one time on the highway.

i was looking into these:

1. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....Eagle+F1+GS-D3 pricey and looking to get 225/55/16
they don't have them in stock.

2. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....EUHP&tab=Sizes cheapest one but don't know about the brand?

3. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....nce+TripleTred price is similar to that of the f1 above.

these are my current findings. any other suggestions would be great. thanks all TN.

peace

I'm a big Toyo fan....

Here would be my only choice for 215/60/16....

http://www.tiresdirect.net/TOYO_Vers..._95V_P4233.cfm

This is probably the cheapest price you will find them.

They're crappy because you've put 40000 miles on them. Are you tires at the wear bars? Just because they have tread on them doesn't mean they are still good. The tread on your tire, I'm guessing, is between 2/32" and 4/32". I've found that tires usually start getting dicey at highway speeds in the rain when the tread reaches about 4/32" to 3/32".

I replaced my Michelin Energy MXV4 S8 when they had about 29000 miles on them. It still had about 4/32" remaining. Be glad you got 40000 miles out of yours.

If it's during the wet season or approaching wet season, I usually replace my tires around 4/32" which is well before the tread reaches the wear bars. If during the dry season, I tend to run them out :-p

I just replaced my Michelin mx4s at 67,000. I too felt like the tires were way to slick in the rain...I was trying to get the toyos but my local toyo guy said they were 2 weeks + on back order so I did a little more research and got the cooper cs4's. So far so good. Quiet and smooth and not as expensive as the mx4 replacements....I also had to put new brake rotors on to get rid of my shimmy...Good to go for another 60,000, I hope

I'm still driving on the original tires with my 2008 SE. I am going to chuck them once I put on my winter tires but I still have tread left (the backs are not as good as the fronts). I have 41k miles right now.

Right now they don't handle good in the rain so I slow down and stay away from puddles, try to drive in the middle lanes. I can see that the rear tires are not evenly worn, so i need a wheel alignment. I plan on driving them a few more weeks before I put on winter tires. I find these tires to be decent... just not as good as the Toyo's.

I have a 2009 SE I4 and it had the Michelin MX4 Energy's.
I ran the tires up to 48k miles which was more than they were good for.
I wasn't impressed with dry weather cornering
I wasn't excited about rain driving
I was looking hard at the Cooper CS4's based on a friend that loves them. After some more "honest" comments about them and an article on the new Michelin Primacy MXM4's.

http://www.motortrend.com/features/c...ire/index.html

I found a deal at America's Tire with a $70 rebate that put them at the same price as the Coopers and went for it.
I now have 10k miles on them and I am pretty happy.
Dry and wet weather handling is great so far. I am much happier as far as hydroplaning. Mileage hasn't changed and noise level is a little better (probably due to age on the Energy's).
I am happy enough with these, that I am drinking the Michelin kool-aid and just put a set of Michelin LTX's on my wife's 06 Tundra and she is thrilled with them. I'm not as sold, but as they say, "when Mama's happy..."

More money, the betta.

My Michelin Pilots were nice, I could do 100 in them in pouring rain and it would have no effect (at least, when they had tread lol).

My Yokos I have now (Avid Envigors) seem to be less capable, but are about 30% cheaper.

Even when i bought the car new and drove it in the rain, it still sucks. i just did the penny test and i can see his head so i'm still good. i just think Michelin is over rated and their tires are pricey. I'm not cheap, but if i'm gonna spend over 150 bucks a tire, i want to feel confident driving in the rain.

thanks all for the helpful input. i think i'm gonna buy those good year eagle f1 gs d3. gonna call them if they have any more on 225/60/60

I've got Michelin Pilots on my car, came standard with the TRD wheels. I've never had an issue with feeling any slip or anything in the rain, don't really have any complaints on the tires in general. Hardly any noise, and no performance issues for foul weather, except for snow but that's a given

You could have gotten Pilot A/S instead of the PS2s and then it would be fine in snow too

My Michelins Pilot Sport A/S Pluses were noisy as hell though.

How many mileage on your tires? I had them installed last week. I can't tell anything since I've only had 150 miles on them, but they seem to me good tires. I don't care about the treadwear. My top 2 choices are handle and noise.
P/s: It's raining a lot here.

0-35,000 miles.

At 0 miles they were full tread obviously haha. At 35,000 miles they were at 2/32nds, at which point they were tossed. Road noise was the same (loud) from new to worn.

Your miles may vary since not many people burn up tires like I do.

I have Yokohama Avid Envigors now. I don't expect them to last more than 10k miles especially since I can't rotate anymore lol.
