5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I just bought a new 2011 LE (I4) and my body kit has cutouts for dual exhaust (although it currently only has a single pipe). I would like to find some well made smooth sounding universal mufflers to begin my exhaust upgrade. I would like to use something that is drop-in or close to it. Any suggestions? Please offer part #'s if you can.
Do I have to use oval shaped (like the stock muffler) or can I use a round muffler?
Also, the upgrade I am looking to achieve consists of adding an additional muffler to the drivers side and achieving this by installing a "Y" adapter. I don't know much about custom exhaust sytems, but I am assuming most exhaust shops can do this setup for me?
Sorry for all of the questions...I have lots to learn.
Thanks again for all of your input...

I did some more research and I am considering the Magnaflow 12215...will this muffler (x2 with a Y adapter) work for my I4 LE? It's specs are 5" x 8" x 14" and it has a center pipe.
It's a lot of work to go dual, not that easy. Like I said before, be careful with the carbon canister, it might get in the way on the left side. I know I have that and can't go dual.
I'd suggest u to go look under the car and make sure everything is clear before buying anything.

Can you tell me a little more about the carbon canister? What does it look like and where can I find it? I looked underneath the car and the drivers side area where a muffler would be found (on an SE) is clear and apparently there is room for a muffler. I can see the indentation in the body just like the passenger side. It almost looks like a mirror image....
You see that thing that's sitting in the middle of the muffler area? That's the carbon canister. You can't install another muffler in this side. However, some cars don't have this or placed in a different area.
I would recommend you take off the aftermarket rear body kit and install a single tip OEM SE (2007-2009 version only) one in the back (it looks better anyway).
Then you can upgrade your exhaust to a beefier single version.

Thanks very much for the picture....mine looks like it is set up differently. Have a look...and thanks for your time.

Go for it!! But ask the muffler shop just to be sure it's OK.
That is good to hear...thanks for your input. I will check with a local shop to make sure it will work.
From what you can tell from the picture...do you think the heat generated by a muffler mounted there will have a negative affect on the plastic and rubber parts in the vicinity?
