5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I don't know if anyone is interested in this, but I was doing one of my random searches and found a set of 2GR-FE headers that some company is selling. I searched hear and didn't see anything about them so I figured I'd let you'll know about it.
Supposedly someone who did a 2GR-FE swap into and MR2 had a company fabricate them for him and they started selling them earlier this year. I hope this helps someone and if not it still shows that the engine has potential.
it wont fit right into the V6 anyway plus who the hell would pay $699 for a header???
i remember there was someone test fitting a V6 header, where is it now???
I believe it does fit, its just that the stock downpipe off the Gen6 won't fit, you may need to have that custom made.
And $699 for header's is pretty normal, what's wrong with that? I'd imagine $699 is a fair price assuming no one else makes headers for the 2GR motor, after all, this isn't a d16, where you can get headers under $99.

Custom Headers finally!!! I remember the guy who had the 2GR-FE in his MR2 was selling his a while back. Imagine how loud she would purr with a custom downpipe with no cats.

so, what might the install cost with a custom downpipe and any guess how much it changes the power/torque curve alone?
OBX headers for Maximas are about $599 and the Maxima favorites which are the Cattmans are around $799. I'd say thats the average price for any V6. I'm sure you would need a custome Y-pipe to mate up with the Headers, but for anyone who wants that little extra power it could be worth it. The hp gains really depends on how restrictive the factory exhaust manifolds are.
The factory downpipe has a very common V6 bend that exist in Nissan V6's as well, it's a kink that creates more backpressure for the exhaust, restrictively speaking of course.
There's no guess on how much power it'll create and what the curve would look like, but it'd be comparable to any 3.5L motor that gets headers and downpipe. The downpipe price would vary, but should be cheap, anywhere from $150-$300, results vary depending on type of muffler/exhaust shop.
At that point, you might as well have them make you a custom intake manifold and bore out the throttle body.
But then again, it is a Camry, after spending that much money for mods, you could have bought the IS350 or some other comparable sports car in that range.

True, but we have many on these board who already spent that much in mods ...i'ts not always about that but the mod'ing itself. At least for me.
is350 u can't really turbo or do much with engine bc of direct injection n rear is limited in space. plus i like the look of the camry better. so i'd rather dump money into it.
People that think about boosting an IS350 might as well start putting payments on an IS-F, unless they are all into the whole 'exclusive' 'uniqueness' of boosting cars that aren't meant to be.
Nothings wrong with modding a Camry, I've done so too, but just to the OP, if your looking into doing mods like this with headers and such, you'll be better off with a 50 shot. Exhaust/intake are understandable, for aesthetic/noise benefits.
There is a 2JZGTE swap that has been done into an IS250 already, pulling over 400whp.

In my opinion using nitrous oxide is a waste of money cause over time you'll spend more money refilling it than you would've if you just got a turbo setup. Plus a turbos power is always there.
As for the headers, I was just posting the info for other people who might not have known about it. The Camry is my wifes car and she's not into that kind of stuff like I am so I wouldn't put it on her car.
For the IS250, theres also a few turbo'd Camry's here that are putting down over 390whp. If I were to do any kind of performance mods to a Camry that would be the route I would go. I also think that this might help those turbo'd Camry free up some more hp cause from the pics I've seen, they utilized the factory exhaust manifolds and I'm sure the headers would help them squeeze a little more hp out of there turbo kits.

I just called monkeywrench and they said yes it would fit right on any 2GRFE engine
All you need to do is fabricate a Y pipe to your exhaust system.
I'm ordering the headers in about a week. I'll post some picture when it's done.
