5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
About two weeks from when I deleted my resonator, I get a letter from my home owners association signed by several neighbors saying that my exhaust is to be removed or further action will be taken? That's a vague threat.
Nonetheless, I do feel my exhaust note is too raspy, high, and loud. Instead of arguing with the HOA, I will just change my setup. I have limited brands to work with, and so far I've been to my muffler shop 5 times. Once to get a tip welded onto my stocker exhaust, once to get my magnaflow installed, once to delete my resonator, once to put my resonator back on, and once more to take my resonator off again.
So on Monday, I will have my stock exhaust put on again and see how I like driving it without a resonator on stock exhaust. If it sounds weird or half-ass, I will put my resonator back on , hopefully the last time I will have to mess with that section. If I ever crave some sound when I step on the throttle, I will buy a CAI with a dry filter.
Anyone have opinions on alternate routes? At this point I'm trying to get my car back to a tame note without spending much more money.
Thanks,
11LE

Everyone in my neigborhood is cool with me, I mean I don't rev when they're resting, only sometimes when they're at work. You can't hear my exhaust when idling anyway, so that's a plus.
Some of my neighbors have diesel trucks and motorcycle, I think those are louder than my car.
I think u should go with my setup. Vibrant + resonator delete.
The vibrant sounds very deep, low and nice. No raspy at all. Like I said, during start up it makes a mean growl, but after a few seconds later after your engine is warmed up it is very quiet. But when you punch it, all cars alarm on the street will go off and people who hears it will run like hell. But I can sneak up behind people walking without them noticing.
again it depends on who they are or how u drive. in this situation, U need to talk to them maybe give u a chance to drive carefully dont rev up every time u drive. i never have a problem with pp around my house.

That's my point, I don't care who these people are and I know what Home Owners Associations are...
My question is how is it possible for other people to hear your exhaust in the neighborhood? Why would you revv your engine around your neighbors? There is no purpose?
My assumption is the startup every morning at 6 a.m. The other chance that I could be disturbing is when I leave the neighborhood on the straight that leads out. Often I hustle, but I don't floor it because I'm not even half way warmed up.
Maybe my neighbors are just anal and seniors. I got dirty looks running nitro r/c cars.

This is something I complain about to my sister all the time: her HOA. I told her she made a huge mistake building a home on a private lake, when she could have found a lot on any other lake in the area and not been OWNED by the HOA. She has to pay "dues", and they have all kinds of strict rules. You can't even ride jet-skis on her lake! They tell property owners how big their house can or can't be, how close to the water or road it can or can't be. Her neighbor cut down 3 trees on his own lot that he paid for because he felt they could fall onto his house in a storm, and the HOA "fined" him $1000 per tree for not asking "permission" from the HOA "board". I can't believe how they control everyone!
So yes, I like a nice sounding car. But would NEVER purchase a home in a neighborhood with a Home Owners Association! We would never get along! Hell, I'd be tempted to run my big block car (if I had one) around the neighborhood with open headers just to piss them off!
Sweet-sounding exhaust?
Home Owners Associations?
