Canada Head Unit For 2003 camry

alright so im in the market for a head unit for my 2003 camry. Reason being i would like the ability to play my ipod through my stereo. So my budget is 150$ and under and it would be nice to have a USB slot with the ability to control my ipod through the deck. Im a complete noobie with regards to the installation of these things so any help with parts and adapters that i might need is appreciated.

Thanks

Frozen

Increase your budget is a good start. Nothing new in the $150 range for head units is worth installing.

Get an antenna adapter for the Ipod. Cost less and plays through the radio station. Works well enough through the factory radio and just as good as many cheaper head units. These FM modulators can be found at most electronic and department stores. http://www.pylestore.com/pyle-pifm5-...d-display.html

Minimally US$200 is a good starting point for a cheap HU.

The good thing with Crutchfield, vs Ebay or other online sellers, is that they'll usually include instructions/directions and recommend/include any needed adapters for your vehicle. You pay a tad more but get everything you need along with support from a legit retailer.

@Punk
I am in Brampton ON.

@Dead
I am not looking for pristine sound quality. Just something that works decently well and sounds at least as good as the stock deck. Like i said i just want the ipod compatibility. You cannot recommend the best choice for my budget?

I had a friend that had the antenna adapter and honestly i cant see how they sold those to anyone. its like listening to the radio. static and all.

Punknotdead5, was it? http://www.audioheaven.ca/

Local to your location is always best for support if/when you have issues. Check your local shops to see what they have for brands/installation.

Its not about pristine sound, you want it to work, eh?

If you're on budget, use the FM modulator. Quick/easy and keep your stock radio. If not, $200-$250 will get a OK sounding head unit that WILL WORK. I seen too many failures with cheaper stuff.

Its a coin toss among brands. Pick your budget, see what each brand has within that budget, and compare. I'd stick with Pioneer, Kenwood, or Alpine, Clarion.... in the $200 range. Nothing worth looking at below $200 as your factory radio is better sounding and will work well enough with the FM modulator. If you find a close out or black-friday sale this weekend, you might get lucky and get some quality stuff at $150.

If you wanted pristine sound, add $1000+ to the budget for the HeadUnit alone.

<$200 are the HU's that sound WORSE than your factory radio. Not kidding. Not worth wasting $150 for junk.

CamrySExxx, do you need a CD player?

Make sure you read the spec's on whatever you choose. Since CD's are obsolete, some newer receivers don't have a built in CD players. And, since HU amplifiers are junk, some don't have built in amps. So, if you need or want a CD player too, make sure it has one. And, if you don't want to add an amplifier, make sure your receiver has one.

Nope, cd player is the least of my worries,

the main things which are keeping me from picking one of the two is that the KIV-700 doesnt have a detachable face, isnt the excelon brand and more $$, and i guess i can say it doesnt have a cd player ... I never use it but hey there is a chance right? lol

Meanwhile the KDC-X794 is a excelon model and detaches, but the faceplate isnt as nice and doesnt have the features as the KIV (lcd screen) but it DOES do every thing the KIV does IPOD and USB wise and it also supports CD's. Also its much cheaper.

Im leaning toward the KIV-700 but for somer reason I cant finalize my decision. That's just headunits ......

Im also deciding against 6.5" Type r components vs rockford fosgate power T1652-s components LOL ... at this rate im never gonna get my system done.

They are much cheaper than crutchfield, great feedback on their ebay account, great reviews on their site. Personally they are great and customer service is awesome.

They dont have hte LOWEST price, you can find ebay prices that are like $20 bucks cheaper but they provide free shipping for most items so it makes up for it.
