04 Camry unexpected repairs needed

I brought my 2004 Camry to Balise Toyota in Rhode Island for an oil change and just general check up. I had not noticed any problems or leaks...I paid $45 for the oil change but left with a list of repairs that make no sense to me. Namely the water pump and drive shaft need to be replaced and asap...they said the water pump is leaking and the drive shaft is popping, didn't I notice. No i didn't. Until the next day when I did notice popping in the steering - I would have noticed that before.

It makes me think the mechanic actually did something to the car...I know that is unlikely and sounds a bit paranoid but...I bought the car from a reputable used car dealer who's also a mechanic in July 2010, had my mechanic look at it, brought it back to to the dealer for an idle change and other minor repair in September 2010 which he did for free...so this car has been looked at well and maintained well, no accidents. It has 62,000 miles...I am stumped.

Any thoughts? Do these repairs make sense to anyone?

Look at the metal around and under the water pump and see if there is tried coolant there. If so, it is leaking. Fix it. Look at the CV boots on the half axles and see if they are torn. If so, they need to be replaced and likely the CV joint itself needs to be replaced. Any dirt at all in those will destroy them in a matter of a few miles. Beyond that, get a second opinion from a neighborhood mechanic.
