5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
So just a few weeks ago, I had my fourth blower motor installed in a 2007 Camry purchased in late December. This seems to be a very high failure rate for a Toyota part. Anyone aware of any other issues like this on this particular make/model/year of car? Is this something covered under a recall that I might have missed?
The third motor died about a year and a half after being replaced, so I was outside of the parts warranty and the thing cost me close to $400 to get replaced by the dealer. The first two, I believe died because of problems with the resistor pack. The third one appeared to be a bad bearing, as it started to lose speed and one day, just didn't turn on anymore. Until I drove down the highway at 65mph with the vents open to "jump start" it.
I'm hoping this is the last motor. If it dies again, I'll probably look into replacing it myself because I can't afford $400 every 1-2 years for a blower motor.
googled what blower motor issues and i came up with this on youtube its a DIY, not sure if it will help on the camry... not sure hope it helps though somewhat. eeek

There isn't a resistor pack on the 07.
The new motors use a J-FET transistor with PWM drive.
PWM means Pulse Width Modulation. Each pulse can be narrow or wide at the top (on).
A Narrow Pulse is a small kick. A Wide Pulse is hard / longer kick.
The wider the pulse the faster the motor speed.
I would check the fuse for power on both sides, not open.....

Hmm, well, that's what the dealer has always hinted at. Maybe it's the bearings that just go bad after awhile? I had been hearing noises from it for awhile, but when it refused to turn on one day, that's when I took it into the dealer. Once I got it spinning by driving down the roads with the vent open, it would stay running, but it never reached full speed when the dial was set to "High". So to me, that sounded a lot like a motor going bad (which I've dealt with before in other devices). It's just to be on the fourth one already.... Only real problem I've had with the car. Everything else has worked great.

Chirps, squeals and rattles when running are a sure sign of s bad bushing or bearing.. You can add a slow high speed, too...
I think you got a string of bad motors.
There are several site sponsors and others on the web that have the motor at a lower price. I don't think it is to hard to install.....

A string of bad motors, heh. Talk about bad luck if that's the cause. 4th time is a the charm?
As for replacing, this is something that I will have to look at if it fails again. Granted, it'll suck to have to crawl under the dash to get at the thing. I don't have to disconnect the glove box, first, do I?
Might have been something that was never fix at first time.

Did they replace the 'hamster cage' with each motor replacement? If not, and if that's out of balance, it will kill bearings. Ditto if you're getting water directly on the motor...

The new motor comes with the cage as an assembly. You may want to take the motor down and make sure there isn't a rodent nest in it slowing it down before buying another one. I can't remember the last time we replaced a blower motor on 07-on Camry, very few and far between. We have however found quite a few nests in the blower.

my 07 SE blower motor started making noises around 36k miles.. i finally decided to take it a few hundred miles past the warranty period and the dealer was nice enough to cover it under warranty.. the 2nd one is still spinning fine (cross fingers), now i'm at 50k miles..
If you're on your 4th motor, I would suggest getting an aftermarket motor and avoid paying $400 a pop.. that there is a$$ raping from the stealership..
