Lost Keys and Remote

Hi, Sorry if this is a bit of a rehash of a frequent topic - I lost my car keys with remote (dropped them in the office parking) recently. Now I have a spare set, so I have been alright, but I am concerned about my car's security. While no one will go around trying a key in 200 cars, with a remote one needs only press the panic button.

Any suggestions on how I can deal with this? Can I reprogram my lock system or something like that?

Thanks in advance for any help!

you would have to go to the dealership and they would have to reprogram and create you a whole new set of keys, but it is pricey, but not close to what you would lose if your car was stolen

not sure how an alarm is going to stop someone that has your KEY.

Sure it might go off when the car is opened. But that doesnt stop it from getting stolen ..

If I was walking by someone sitting in the car with the key and able to start the car with the alarm going off, I would assume his alarm is malfunctioning, it does happen. The theif can drive off with the car or just have easier access to belonging without having to smash a window or something extreme that would get someones attention.

I would go to the dealer and get new keys to be safe...

You did lose it at the office parking lot though, maybe someone was nice enough to turn it in or maybe you can ask around to see if any co-workers found it...

an alarm can be too costly, and they are all defeat-able.

to buy a new key, means a new door lock as well, AND the labor to tear apart the door(s) to install.

best bet, get a new remote, and re=program both (the new one and his other one)of them. i had mine done for under $200.

and yes, maybe someone did find the keys and turned them into security or the receptionist.

This happened to a friend of mine. But the dealer lost his key (06 Xrunner). They reprogramed his remote and immobilizer chip in the key.

Question

Related to this post. My house was burgled last weekend. My wife's house/car keys were stolen. I still have one key, valet key, and one original fob. If the car is reprogrammed can just the stolen fob be locked-out from opening the car, while the remaining original fob remain securely working? Thank you.

Also, about the physical replacement keys, is it possible to get the parts and replace the locks myself? I don't trust anyone pulling apart interior panels, door panels, etc. Thank you.
