Steering wheel vibration

Just noticed a slight vibration in the steering wheel at about 70mph. Nothing major, more just annoying than anything. Got the tires balanced today, vibration is still there. Car has never been wrecked. Any suggestions?

I will have that checked out also. It doesn't pull to either side. That is why I didn't just have it aligned today.

No way it's the brakes. That will happen when you are braking, not driving.
Main reasons:
Wheels unbalanced (not you)
Uneven tread wear (try swapping the rear wheels to the front)
Axles (look for a torn CV boot)

1) a broken steel belt or cord

2) a separated belt

3) a bent wheel

4) a missing axle shaft balance weight

5) a strut that is weakening

6) a wheel that was put on the car (as in tire rotation) and the rust around the hub was not removed, making the wheel to NOT sit flush on the hub, and torqued down unevenly.

7) too many stones (no matter how small) embedded into the tire threads, to throw off the balance. these should always be removed BEFORE a re-balancing.

8) slightly bent axle shaft

9) inner or outer CV joint.

10) inner or outer tie rod ends.

11) rack and pinion assembly.

Also too much play in the wheel bearing.

I posted a similar problem which turned out to have three separate causes and I just posted the resolution to the problem this morning at

http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/sh...98#post3403198

In my case, the tires were out of balance, the brake pads were defective and replaced at no charge under warranty, and one tire was defective.

You probably have defective tires (one or more). You can rebalance a defective tire all you want but it's impossible to ever completely balance it. It's happened to me in the past.

yeah that's too bad. they put name brand tires on all new cars, but i do believe they are on the "lower end" of the price range.

any factory tire should last (at a minimum) of at least 50,000 miles, with proper tire inflation and regular rotations. i always got that many miles.
