??How do I Add Transmission Fluid To a 2007 Camry V6 SE (Six Speed Auto)???

All, I am wondering if anyone knows how to add transmission fluid to a 2007 Camry SE with the V6 and 6 Speed Auto Transmission. Apparently this is a closed system and requires very little maintenance. If you want to know how I got here...

The right transaxle failed and the Toyota dealership wanted $600 for just the part to replace. $400 more in labor. I couldn't find anyone that manufactured this part 2nd, 3rd party. I think it is because it is newer and is a less common engine. Everyone had the axle for the 4 cylinder. Anywas I found that Oreilly auto would refurbish my existing axle and give me 3 year warranty for $70! So I pulled it out and mailed it off. Took a little over two weeks (car was on jacks in the garage). During this time the camry leak almost exactly a quart (captured and measured). Now I put the axle back in and want to add this quart back (new stuff of course). But can't find where the heck to do it. I found one post that said it is behind the left splash shield but I was unable to locate... help anyone?

Thanks in advance,

Chiprock.

Note - If anyone needs help replacing that transaxle, let me know it has some particulars...

You need to read the service manual section on this topic. It is complicated, requires the fluid temperature to be at a specific point, etc. Ultimately the dealer will get their spiff whether you intended for it or not. There are two plugs on the side of the transmission case. You remove both of them add add to the top plug until it runs out the bottom plug, but again, fluid is expandable and if it is cold you will then have too much.

procedure is not that complicated at all IMO. did a drain and fill a few weeks back.

If you were able to remove the axle you are more than capable of performing this simple drain and fill.

PM me and i can get you linked to the Factory Service Manual Procedure.

Glenn8963 thanks for the bump,

gdanaher, I am thinking that since I know almost exactly how much I took out I can add without really having to go thru the whole process of checking, however... if I am doing it anyways may as do it the right way...

Another thing to note is the car is at 105,000 miles and I believe this is part of the regular service. Thoughts of bringing it to the dealership are starting to go thru my head...

njerald, you know where I could find this TSB?

Axxis8203, I pm'ed you. That would be really helpful.

2. Connect the Transmission Fill System.
A. Remove the refill plug.
B. Attach the quick disconnect
transmission fill adapter to the
refill hole.
C. Confirm there is at LEAST 2 liters
of ATF WS in the reservoir.
3. Activate the fluid temperature detection mode.
A. Using TIS Techstream, perform TC and TE1 Active Test with the following menus:
ECT / Active Test / Connect TC & TE1.
Use the arrows to turn TC and TE1 Active Test ON.
NOTE:
The TC to TE1 Active Test can also be performed using the Diagnosis Check Wire
(SST P/N 09843–18040) or equivalent. Active Test ON connects terminals TC and TE1,
Active Test OFF disconnects terminals TC and TE1.
B. Depress and hold down the brake pedal.
C. Start the engine.
D. Slowly move the shift lever from “P” to “R” to “N” to “D,” then back to “P,” allowing
each gear to fully engage prior to moving to the next gear position.
E. While observing the “D” shift
indicator on the combination
meter, move the shift lever back
and forth between “N” and “D” at
an interval of 1.5 seconds, for
6 seconds or more.

HINT:

Turning terminals TC and TE1 OFF activates the engine idle speed control mode.

Even after terminals TC and TE1 are turned OFF, the fluid temperature detection
mode is active until the ignition switch is turned OFF.

4. Warm up the ATF to fluid check temperature.
With the engine idling in Park, allow the transmission to reach the fluid check
temperature of 104 to 113

5. Check the ATF fluid level.
NOTE:
The fluid temperature MUST be between 104 and 113
°F (40 and 45°C) to accurately
check the fluid level.

A. Remove the overflow plug with
the engine idling (A/C OFF).
HINT:
Removing the overflow plug before
reaching fluid check temperature
makes it easier to confirm when fluid
starts coming out at a steady rate.
B. Check that the fluid comes out of the overflow tube.

If fluid does NOT come out, proceed to step 6, “Refill the transaxle’’.

If fluid comes out, wait until the overflow slows to a trickle and proceed to
step 7, “Complete the transaxle fluid level Inspection Procedure’’.
6. Refill the transaxle.
A. Remove the overflow plug and gasket.
B. Connect the transmission fill system pump and hose to the quick disconnect
adapter already connected to the refill hole.
C. Add ATF into the refill hole until ATF flows from the overflow tube.
D. Wait until the overflow slows to a trickle and proceed to the
“Complete the transaxle fluid level Inspection Procedure’’ procedure in step 7.
7. Complete the transaxle fluid level Inspection Procedure.
A. Install the overflow plug with a NEW gasket.
B. Add an
additional 200 ml of ATF WS through the refill hole.
C. Stop the engine.
D. Install the refill plug with a NEW gasket.
