2002 Camry cruise control kicking off

Hello All,

Well im having an issue with my cruise control, maybe! First of all, let me just say that i replaced my transmission a few months ago. and it seems to work just fine.
The problem at hand is- when i put my cruise control to "on" and i rest my hand on the shifter the cruise control kicks off.
Let me be clear here. When im in cruise control mode and i move the shifter to the aft position, " not going into 2nd gear" but just a slight movement of the shifter, my cruise control turns off. Mechanic said it was normal for the 02 camry. i dont recall it having this issue before the tranny change. Should my shifter in "drive" position have any movement? Not to mention, my indicator light on the cluster goes away when i move the shifter aft- the 'D' is not lite up.

Hope to here from someone soon about my issue.

Thank you All.

The shifter linkage isn't adjusted properly.
