Howling from manifold area

My wife's car started making this howling noise coming from the front exhaust manifold. It started 3 days ago. I changed the oil on Saturday and added coolant that can mix with any other coolant, supposedly. The noise is constant. Not too loud yet. It is always there as soon as you turn the car on. It is more noticeable when the car is idling. The noise does not increase with the gas. I read on 2CarPros that it could be the air injection pump but I think our cars dont have that. Or the transmission is clogged and needs to be cleaned. The car has 92,000 miles and no transmission service. I'll have to cut my left nut to get a new transmission.

Anyway, if yous guys/gals can help, I'll appreciate it.
Thanks.

PS- I searched the forum and nothing like my problem.

Thanks to all that replied.

I changed the transmission fluid which was pretty dark. The damn plug leaks now. It has a metal washer and I know I screwed the plug in correctly. I took it out. Check the threads and they are fine. I plug it back, hand tight and this morning still leaks. I dont know what the hell.

To add insult to injury, the sound still there. I took apart the heat cover from the manifold and there was green dust, dont know from where. Then I took the spark plugs cover. Then sound was less but it came from the cylinder closer to the belt. At least it sounded like its coming from that area. I took that spark plug out and the shite was black. I guess its in need of a replacement.

Anyway, thats an update. Not that anyone cares. I will take it to a good shop around here and ask what they think it could be. I'll keep you all posted.

I have the same noise. Mine started when I put fuel injector cleaner in. It started a few days later. Can't figure out what it is. Let me know if you find out. Thanks!

Check with the dealer if the car is under the 60/60 power train warranty. Avoid messing with anything they could blame you for.

I have over 74,000 on my 07' Camry. To late for 60/60. It seems to run fine except for the noise. It reminds me a diesel noise engine.

usually a good idea to replace that washer every time you change the transmission fluid, it's cheap insurance. and hand-tight is not good enough... especially if you're reusing the washer. needs more torque to re-deform that washer so it seals. on my car (05 camry) torque spec is 36 ft-lbs.

Thanks LE05.
I went to a local shop and these guys are the most helpful bunch I have ever met. Anyway. The guys there told me the same thing as LE, change the aluminum washer from the plug with a new one.

The sound. He said it could be 2 things, the belt, which is the original with 93k miles or the worst part, the belt serpentine tensioner. The latter cost $250 bucks plus install. He said, best would be the belt first and see if the sound goes away. If not, then its the tensioner. The bearings tend to go too like a wheel bearing, and you get that same howl. Makes sense.

I'm out of warranty, so I have to do the belts first. JBishop, the mechanic said that the belt should be changed at 60k. Tranny oil @ 30k. The book says the oil at 80k, I think. I dont remember well.

Anyway, thats the update.
