2011 Camry LE radio lighting problem?

Hey fellas, my dad just picked up a 2011 Camry LE and LOVES the car, but there's one issue that is really bugging him and the dealer doesn't have a straight forward answer. At night when the lights are on, whether turned on auto or manually, the radio lights completely turn off, no matter how the dimmer is set or adjusted, but if the lights are turned off, the radio lights will come on. Is there an issue with this because I know the older 6 gen models had complaints of the radio lights being too bright at night, but having none isn't right either. Any suggestions or advice is appreciated.

Thanks in advance

-Brian

It is broken. It should dim with the dash lights, when the headlights are on. Cover the sensor to test OR manually turn the headlights on. The dash light dimmer is in with the trip reset knob. Get the dealer to fix the problem.
