I highly doubt, someone would go and remove their radio to do a DIY unless they are doing it themselves. I believe there are tutorials on how to remove the radio in the forums somewhere. It involves removing pillars next to cubby, removing cubby, removing air vents and unscrewing radio from center console.

I looked at the link and see the blue face on the radio and the shot with the LED's, but don't actually see how to get the face plate off to get at them. It mentions just needing a screw driver... I presume you just pry and pop and some specific place and it pops off?

I don't care about the color... I just want to dim those damned lights down or shut them off all together. I find the radio light very annoying at night and far too bright. Perhaps covering them with some blue painter's tape would mute them down to a tolerable level. It's a personal thing I guess, but just want to get that faceplate off and dim those suckers way down!

Anyone?

You shut them off by going dark...turn your ODO knob all the way left

Yah... that's helpful. NOT. Figured that one out all on my own.

Looking for how to pop the radio face plate off without busting something so I can dim down or completely cover those radio LED's. Would be nice to have the instrument lights still on without staring into a spotlight on the radio. If your night vision is trashed from light pollution inside the car you might not see that deer or moose in time to stop at night before it becomes a hood ornament.

Seems this case is unique to you since no one else has ever complained about this .. ever....

The simple solution is to turn all lights off inside, and who needs an instrument cluster? Do you really need to know exactly how fast you are going while driving in pitch dark?

I turn off all my lights if my passenger wants to rest at night or something.

Dude, if you don't have anything to add, go find another thread.

Here's a thread asking the same thing and oh look... item #3 is another useless reply from MJZ:
stock radio light question

10 posts and already a big shot here at TN? LOL, I can see your stay here is going to be really productive.

Your original question was:

" don't care about the color... I just want to dim those damned lights down or shut them off all together."

There is an OEM solution I've already pointed out. That's great that you figured it out ALL on your own (congrats), but being an ass about it on your what, 5th post? Classy!

And why are you commenting on my post about electrical tape when you were considering the same thing with blue painter's tape? Funny guy.

No big shot here... just someone who has been on enough other forums to spot the useless morons who like to beat their chests and add useless digs and replys to get their numbers up. Most of them don't do jack to contribute, but like you just enjoy instigating a flame war. Folks can read the thread and decide for themselves.

My original post (all of it not quoted out of context) was actually:

And I was looking for more info on how to remove the radio to tone down the LED's. Found a video on youtube showing how to remove it, get the faceplate off, and gain access to the LED's. That's what I wanted. Not a flamewar with someone who obviously has nothing to contribute on topic. (blue frowny face intentionally omitted)

And as far as your comment:
"And why are you commenting on my post about electrical tape when you were considering the same thing with blue painter's tape? Funny guy."

I seem to recall you saying on the subject of dimming the lights:
"Seems this case is unique to you since no one else has ever complained about this .. ever...."

Can't recall what you said just a couple posts ago Mr Wizard? This was the topic of the other thread by Hologram:
stock radio light question
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
is there anyway to lower or dim the lighting around the stock radio? for me personally it takes away from my night vision when i drive.

But thanks for making the new guy feel welcome!

Can you post the video? I still can't figure out how to pop the face plate off.
Thanks

I'll see if I have any pictures from when I did mine when I get home later this week. If not, I may have time in the next week or two to open mine back up and take pictures.
