Gen6 Gauge lights

Hi,
I have a 2011 Camry SE and everytime when I turn on my lights, my gauge lights turn on. There is nothing wrong with that but sometimes the gauge lights dims itself and then afterwards gets bright again. I don't know if it supposed to do that or not. Its really distracting if your driving on the highway
Sorry for the broken english :O
I hope somebody can help thanks !

Gauge lights are illuminated whenever the car is in operation. The lights are brighter during the day to compensate for ambient lighting. They automatically dim when the headlights are turned on. If they are too bright, there is a rheostat in front of you to adjust the light up or down.

Sorry
but I mean it happens at night while I am driving it suddenly dims itself and then after a while it goes bright again. I don't mind if it was bright or not the problem is that it just suddenly does it.

Cover the sensor on the dash with something dark. See if it has the symptoms while it isn't in motion, then drive it around, is it repeatable? Then take it to the dealer with the list of what you found. Does the radio change in intensity with the dash lights, too? My XLE don't do this to the display while driving at night.
