5th & 6th Generation (2002-2006 & 2007-2011)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 2002-2006 & 2007-2011
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hey guys, have not posted in Camry forum, I have an Avalon. My problem is with my wifes car. She recently had 4 disks fuzed in her back and can no longer tolerate the stiff suspension/harsh ride of her 2011 Hyundai Sonata SE. I have always heard the Camry has a "cloud like" ride, and my Avalons (2002) is amazing!
Does the 2011 Camry have as good or ride so far as being soft and quiet as what I have been hearing? Is it far behind what I get from my Avalon?

the LE model comes nicely equipped and rides real nice. the SE is a "sportier version" and will ride stiffer....the XLE is top of the line, rides the same as the LE, but has more options like leather seats power sun roof, etc, etc.
i been in LE,XLE CE all of them and my SE is the BEST!!!!
The OP's wife is in pain and needs a very smooth ride. That should be enough explanation for anyone with a bad back. You'd get it if you hurt. Give it a few years.

i feel like the SE gives a great smooth ride, better then any other. i say he goes to the dealer and test drive them all, nothing wrong with that if you are going to be paying for something for the next 5 years.

the SE has a stiffer suspension, and will aggravate the woman who's in back pain...
you were told this......
now go and enjoy your SE, we are very happy for you...............
We've got a radical SE fanboy on our hands.. just because the SE is better suitable for you does not mean it is as suitable for the OP's wife, who really needs a boat inside a large pool on wheels, or something equivalent like an LE model, to soak up some bumps.
OP, while you wait, you could try lowering the tire pressure in your existing car/car your wife is driving to help a little bit. My air pressure is upped to 40 for a bit better off the line acceleration, but let me tell you, at factory air pressure, this thing floated over a dismantled brick road like a cloud.

The other Camry's ride like Buicks of the old, just floats along comfortably.

the OP did say he wants a soft smooth. and the SE are stiffer than all the others . i sat in LE before and it is way softer and bettter( as for stock height)
You have to remember that since it'll probably be a new car, the suspension will be brand new and quite stiff. It has to "break in" after all. When I bought my 2010 with 3 miles on the ODO, I thought it was pretty stiff. Unfortunately, I changed the suspension before it even broken in but my ex's 07 was fairly soft. Just something to think about

Well, if a smooth ride is a priority, the SE isn't a good choice. Between the 17's and the stiffer springs and shocks, the ride will be notably rougher than the LE and XLE.
Now, if more responsive handling is a priority, that's a different story.
